Magic Bands - Crazy for Color?

My DH has picked grey twice so far because 1. he has red, blue, green and orange and those are the only MB colors he wants and 2. it goes with most of his clothes..... I was actually considering getting grey myself because I have all the colors, until purple came out

The funniest thing is even FIL who never cares about things like this always makes sure to choose a colour online so he doesn't end up with grey. I told him once that the grey was for people who forgot to choose or lost theirs.

Side note: I was so confused growing up about how to spell colour. Books written in Canada had colour and those written in the US had color. I saw it both ways and never knew which was right.

Both DH and DS have chosen grey in the past. They like it. Not everyone sees it as icky.

I'm going with the correct spelling being colour, since that's how the originally speakers of English decided that's how it's spelled. Don't let our crazy US nonsense sway you lol.

They're both right. "Color" is correct in US English & "colour" is correct in UK English. It's the same with "grey" (UK English) & "gray" (US English). An English teacher in the US can & should be marking non-US spellings as incorrect if they are indicated as such in the AP Stylebook. I know gray vs. grey is covered there - not sure about color vs. colour.

Outside of an academic setting, I don't see why people can't just use whichever spelling they prefer.

My daughter picked Gray and I could not persuade her otherwise. LOL I wouldn't really mind a gray band, but I have always gone for color !

I've heard stories about teachers who wasted months on sentence diagrams but never bothered to explain the function of an apostrophe & how to use it. It's almost as though they went out of their way to ensure they never taught anything useful. The result is that we get things like "FOR SALE: DOG'S."

DD chose gray for our most recent trip. I'm pretty much covered in gray, so I prefer something a bit more cheerful. I'd love one of the custom bands, but paying those prices for something I can get free...just can't do it.

The grey would match the colour in my hair! lol I almost picked grey because we are getting some custom stickers in silver and I thought it would be pretty. But this year I went with green. I'm normally a blue band person - but I am tired of the royal / bold blue- I want aqua or turquoise.

I think for me it's because Disney gives me "permission" to be more colorful. At work it's all about neutral. But when I'm at Disney I can wear Mouse Ears and crazy colored Magic Bands! I might look silly, but at Disney I don't care. I guess I'm channeling my daughter who still wears pink and glitter and sequins with reckless abandon. Can't do that in the real world, but you bet I can do it at Disney.

Also why do they need to "test" new magic band colours? I remember the purple was in testing phases for quite a while. Why would the ink used on the band need a test???

Clear nail polish with sparkles. It worked well and only chipped a little by the end of the week.

My ten year grandson picked grey only because he couldn't get black.

You sound just like my DH, lol! I wouldn't let him get grey for our first few MB trips, because I told him everyone would think we were one of those slackers who didn't bother to customize them beforehand. Definitely the "band of shame", ha! So he reluctantly picked orange and yellow.

Later, we did end up with a set of grey ones when I changed a trip to a split stay at the last minute. So sometimes he gets away with wearing that one now.

But especially at first, I didn't want to be labeled as one of those "not in the know" people. I guess I care a lot less now. But I still want one of the fun character ones before our next trip
