When we take our 5 year old twins to WDW, we typically place temporary tattoos on their arms with my cell phone number on them in case we were to ever get separated. Just wondering- with the new magic bands linked to our accounts with names and phone numbers, could they theoretically scan the bands of lost kids and get parent names and numbers to reunite them?

1. Yes.
2. Felt better that my own five year old twins were wearing them last week!

This is reassuring regarding our 15 mo twins, although I am still considering putting them on those harnesses :)

I'm not sure if children under 2 receive the bands. I thought that they were distributed the same way as KTTW cards. On our next trip, my niece will be 2 years and 353 days old and I told my sister she will not be able to get a MagicBand. I'd like to know what the policy is regarding those under 3.

My 2 yr 4 mo granddaughter got a magic band despite not having admission media. It did open the hotel door. Abby was listed as "infant" on the MDE profile.

Good to know. Were you able to order/customize the MB for the infant?

Yes, all guests get MBs, even those under 3. You should see the under-3yo on the MB customization page just like you see the rest of your party.

Awesome! Thanks! My sister will be glad to hear that both of the girls will get a band:goodvibes.

Just thought I would also add that my 2 year old has a MB coming! I was able to customize it for our upcoming trip in January. I LOVE this safety feature.

Just to add another confirmation my 2 year old has a magic band ready for our trip in a few days!

Everyone listed on reservation gets a MB. Just like KTTW cards. My DD has been getting one each trip since she was 3mo and got her first MB in November.
Also if there is a split stay each person on resie gets one for each resort stay- infant to adult.

I've heard some adults say they don't like Disney knowing their whereabouts, I think the safety feature for kids outweighs that concern. Besides, Disney has always known when you were coming and going from the parks, how big of a deal is it that they know you're waiting in line for Splash Mountain? :earsboy:

Personally, I think it is a pretty big deal. I don't think my every step needs to be tracked -- and it creeps me out a bit to know that it can be.

If you want a tracking device for a child, that's your issue (or said parents). I don't want to be tracked.

Is there an alternative option is someone does not want a Magic Band?

You can get the RFID KTTW card. This is a passive device and will not actively track your location. T

...and of course, we have a split-stay:upsidedow. We have our first two nights in separate studios and then three nights sharing a 2BR.

Thanks! I was not sure if that was instead of or in addition to the band. I appreciate the info. :)

I have read repeatedly that the MB does not track location and that it cannot be scanned for info about others in your travel party.

Maybe that's false. Just in case I used a perm market and wrote my sons name, my name and my cell number on the outside of his MB.

Correction after re-reading my prior thread in this. The band can be scanned for name, resort, etc but not a tracking devise like a GPS.

MBs emit some sort of active signal that can be read by Disney. There is a pacemaker warning so they definitely emit something. If you pass one of the signal catchers they will know your band was there. I have no idea what part of that data gets analyzed or even when it gets analyzed. It may be that x number of bands are near Peter Pan. Or it might be that honeymo78s band was in the emporium for 30 minutes and she never bought anything so let's send her a coupon. Could be somewhere in between.

Also this is how the magic displays (or something like that) will work. It seems that the name associated with the band will be accessible. From what I understand the display might say Good Morning Stephanie but I wouldn't have swiped my band for the display to know my name. I think there was some post about these displays at the Brown Derby but I might be confusing that with something else.

Exactly, it's not GPS. Maybe they could give a general vicinity for the missing child or last passed signal area but I have no clue how close together those things might be.
