Hi everyone,

We just got back from a 4 day adult only trip with 5 couples and had a blast! Not a full trip report here however, we do want to give some quick reviews on a few things; Magic Bands, Refillable Mugs and DVC/TIW/AP discounts.

Let's get the easy and most disappointing one done first. We are DVC members, have PAP's and TIW and on 9 yes 9 occasions whether in restaurants or stores not one cast member knew of discounts. One restaurant that accepts TIW, 3 servers did not even know what it was. Disappointing..

Refillable Mugs:
Did we miss something because I had no idea there was a major change in the mug system. You now have to buy the mug and pay on the # of days, so in the past it would be say $13.99 for your stay, now it is $8.99 for one day, $10.00 for two, etc. and $17.99 for the entire stay. I do like this for those short trips because it's actually cheaper. Now here is what was very clever, the cups now have sensors in them and if that sensor is not active or expired during your stay the actual soda machines do not work. It was very cook watching someone try and fill an old mug and it did not work. Good stuff and happy about the change. It was making me sick watching people buy mugs and use them for two years.

Magic Bands:

First let me say it's the greatest thing in the world and I am a pretty picky person! 10 adults and not one of us carried cash, a room key, a credit card or even a drivers license. Nothing, nada, zippo! It was awesome!

Pros:
Everything was linked perfectly through my disney experience and for 10 people and no errors that was awesome!

When you check in and if your room is not ready in the past they would alert you via text message and you would have to go back to the desk to get your room number. No longer do you do that, they text the room number right to you.

Purchases in stores, bars, restuarants, etc. worked like a charm. I would say though it's a little tough to get the green light to work. Sometimes it did take tapping the door or the pin pad 3-4 times and holding it there.

Fast passes worked well and was very easy and accurate.

Cons:
Sun burn marks:) The band keeps from a perfect tan and creates an awesome which line around your wrist.

Changing fast passes was not easy, the cell reception in epcot was horrible and could not get into the app anyway.

Spent more money, even though not really a con!

Let us know if anyone has questions but overall the bands were much better than we imagined and our guests even said every resort outside of Disney should do it.

Nice report, I enjoyed the refillable mug for our stay at SSR last year. We only wanted 2 days and it was great. Not so great that you have to wait 2 mins between filling though. I had a thirsty 2yr old with me and the lemonade needed to be topped off!

What about your discounts? I'm interested in that!

Hey guys,
glad you had a great trip.

Actually the sensors on the refillable mugs is not a new thing. the water parks have been doing it that way for a good 10 years, I always wondered whe the resorts didn't follow suit. My sons now in their 20's have their blizzard beach cups. we simply brought them back every year and brought the new sticker. Glad the resorts are finally on board, although we rarely get reusable mugs anymore.

So I'm going to reserve judgement on the magic bands until my May trip. Fp+ is not thrilling me. I hate that I'm almost forced to pre plan my rides and since we are avid park hoppers we are really going to be screwed in the 2nd park.

10 adults!! wow, you guys are brave. lol

So...that's not the best idea in the world. Someone breaks a leg in the parks, an ambulance ride ensues, you're now at the hospital without ID, CC, or insurance card. Not the most fun situation.

Or even if someone wants a beer and the CM decides to ID you. If they ask for ID and you don't have it, they aren't going to give the beer to you. If they are being watched by the FL liquor authority, they will get into huge trouble. Even if you're 95, if you're asked for ID, you're not getting that beer if you don't have it.

If you want to use a discount, like DVC or AP, etc, you have to carry that card, too.

There are vendors that don't have scanners for cards or bands, so if you suddenly want a balloon or a light-up toy or even a snack from a rare place that needs cash, you don't get that.

MBs were yet another thing to carry. DVC owners, AP holders...carried both of those cards, plus ID plus CC just in case the MB didn't work, plus insurance cards, plus cash.

Just to clear up a common misconception ... not asking someone for ID is not against the law. Serving someone underage is. The Florida Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco cannot penalize you for not carding, they can only penalize you if you're caught serving to a minor.

Now, DISNEY may have a policy that you card everyone, and you could very well lose your job for not following policy. But the law has nothing to do with that.

I'm a bit of an armchair expert in liquor laws. I have a Christmas Eve birthday, and I frequently have an expired license because getting a renewal around that time is a pain. I'm also frequently turned away at bars and restaurants for not having a valid ID. According to the law, it IS valid as ID, it's just not valid to DRIVE. (Just because it's expired doesn't mean I'm not how old it says I am.) I'm frequently told that it's a rule by the local liquor board, but it never is ... it's just what management tells people to get them to comply with policy.

OK, carry on. :rotfl:

You are definitely entitled to your opinion just as I expressed mine. I am not some sort of paranoid person that I need to carry insurance cards with me. Never carried them in 25 years and not about to start. If I have to get sent to a hospital then great they will get my name when I get there. No big deal happens every day. I was giving you a review of how well it worked and if you want to shoot holes in it that's fine but your shooting failed:cool1:

Not I, did not have to carry anything of this stuff. Take a photo of your license and DVC card with your phone and you are good to go.

We loved the magic bands too. We got the mugs with our meal plan. We never used them! We are not pop drinkers.

Just an FYI but there has been more than one report of people not bringing their ID's along and being chastised by CM's for not doing so. Also there have been charging issues for some but it sounds like you did not have that problem.

I'm shocked they accepted a picture (I'm assuming on your phone) as validation. I'm thinking very very lucky you. It would be nice if they made that decision but it's ripe for identity abuse. It would be very easy to past a picture over the original and snap a shot and not easy to see in a picture if done semi-decent.

Exactly...I'm 55 yo, and have only been carded ONCE in my entire life, just after I turned 21 at Sea World in San Diego. And I agree with the other ALWQAYS carry ID, insurance info and an extra credit card. It isn't only the Magic Bands that can have problems. I've been to Disney probably 100 times over the last 30 years, and on two occasions the entire resort system went down, and all room charging along with it.

If you order a drink at the AMC theater at DTD, you will be carded regardless your age (and they do not take room charges). DH, 65 and I, 60 have been carded each time we have been there.

If you have something to pick up at a will call window, you better have ID.

I am signed up for a tour and have been told I must bring ID with me.

Even with TIW, I have been asked for an ID to verify I am the person whose name is on the card.

I feel like places tend to turn away people with expired ID's because they think there's a greater potential for it being "fake". Not that it's not an actual ID, just that they got it from someone that looks like them when that person renewed their own ID.

Thanks for the info. I know a family that I'm pretty sure is still using old Dixie Landings mugs....they used to drag them along every trip. :rotfl2:

The old resort mugs were sold as "Refillable for life". So they may have those.

When they announced the Rapid Fill program, a lot of people complained about not being able to use their old lifetime mugs. I'm not sure if Disney ever addressed it though.

One quick question.. did each couple have their own card attached to their Magic Band? And did they each have a My Disney Experience account?

I'm trying to figure out if we can add a Disney Gift Card to my MyDisneyExperience account and have my son have a pin that only allows him to spend from it. Anyone know if this is possible?

I have to agree with carrying photo ID at all times.

Even if Disney's systems have high reliability (debatable), over many trips you'll eventually run into a circumstance where ID is needed. Ticket doesn't work....can't get into hotel room....band lost....questions on room charge...

In the event of accident / injury / illness, I wouldn't want to rely on Disney MagicBand readers for someone to identify me.

I've worked in the health insurance industry for years and while a card won't prevent you from getting care, it can certainly make the process go much smoother.

Carrying a small pouch in my back pocket with essential ID is a small price to pay when considering all of the possibilities.

Yes everyone had their own credit card linked to their own account. They also had their own my disney experience accounts and we never linked them all together. Not sure about the gift cards

I don't tecall them ever being for life. I always thought they were lenth of Stay.
So now if I am staying for 5 days how much is the mug?
I also miss the reort specific mugs.

You would have to pay for the length of stay option if you wanted to use the mug all 5 days.

$8.99 for 1 Day
$11.99 for 2 Days
$14.99 for 3 Days
$17.99 for Length of Stay

I totally dig the band. But I wouldn't go anywhere without my ID and backup credit card in case the band doesn't work. I usually have DH put my ID In his wallet, and he always has insurance cards in his wallet. No purse for me!

Then we have a unisex cross body bag for camera, phone, sunscreen, autograph book etc.
