If you are staying at a WDW resort, you CAN get new MBs for no charge (and I would do so.)
If you are not staying at a WDW resort, you could buy new MBs (but, that would not really be necessary.)

For the uses when you TOUCH the MB to the readers, the MBs can last more or less “forever.”
The uses that sense the MBs at a distance can last 2-4 years, give or take.
Even the “distance” uses for MBs from Nov. 2018 should work well for the next year or more.
You can still use them.
They will still work for any touch points.
The long range battery may be dead so there may be certain features such as getting photos/videos from attractions that do not have a touch point like 7DMT or FEA.
If everyone will be touring the parks together you could always buy ONE new magic band and link it to someone.
As long as the old ones are linked to MDE and the tickets are linked to MDE then there is nothing further that needs to be done for the magic band to access the ticket media.
question... I just received my new bands in the mail are they active? I have a Disney room reservation. Do I need to something since I have old magic bands?
