Hi All,

I haven't been to Disney since 2009, so I don't know alot about the magic bands, but I guess I have a general understanding. You can use them to open your door, enter the parks, for dining reservations, & fastpass.

I read that I will receive one for free because I am staying at a disney resort (OKW). My trip isnt set until July 7. My question is when will I receive them? Through mail or the first day I arrive? Also I heard people can customize them. Can I do this? Is it free to do? I think I do it through mydisneyexperience.com?
 
Most everything about planning a Disney vacation now is on the mydisneyexperience.com website or app. If your OKW reservation is not showing up on it you should link it. Under the MyDisneyExperience tab at the right you will find a link to Magicbands and Cards. There you'll see the link to order your MB which is free since you are staying at a Disney/DVC hotel. It will be sent to you as long as you are in the US - usually around 30 days prior to your stay. If you are out of the country then it will be at your hotel when you check in. If you don't customize one then they will give a a non-customized one when you check in.
 
If you customize 10 days before your check-in date your MB on MDE it will be shipped to your home address. See below.

When is the deadline for customizing my MagicBand?

If you customize your MagicBand with your name and favorite color 10 days before your arrival at your Disney Resort hotel, it will be shipped to your home. If you customize your MagicBand between 9 and 6 days prior to your arrival at Walt Disney World Resort, you will receive it when you arrive at your Disney Resort hotel. If you do not customize your MagicBand until 5 days or less before your arrival, you will receive a non-customized MagicBand or card when you arrive at Walt Disney World Resort.

You customize your magic bands in the MDE application, in a pull down located under the words, My Disney Experience, select, Magic Bands and Cards. You will need to login to MDE as well. After selecting Magic Bands and Cards you will be taken to the section where you select the color and add the names you want on each MB for family.

The MBs are sent out to your home around three weeks before your check in date if you customize them in advance. Otherwise you have to pick them up at the check-in desk and you all will be given a gray MB with the given name shown on the reservation.
 
The mydisneyexperience.com website is also where you link your tickets to your account which will allow you to make your FP selections at 60 days out since you are staying onsite. If you were off site then it would be 30 days out. The calendar will show dining reservations you have made on the site too.
 

Hi guys,

I created linked my hotel reservations to the mydisneyexperience.com account. I see the magicbands and cards section, but they have different prices for the bands $19.95, $29.95? Are they still free. Does it matter what the cost is, I receive it free no matter what.
 
Customizing the bands is picking the color and having a name printed on the back. It isn't the additional add-ons that are for sale in the Disney stores.
