Will my child under 3 receive one or do they only send them out for people in the party ages 3+?

Everyone gets one, but for those under 3 they are not functional.

What about opening a hotel door? Will the band of a child, say age 8 or age 15, open a door?

Yes - all MBs are room keys and park passes and if you like you can let your children access room charging - or not - your preference.

But under 3 is “not functional?” Confused, sorry, hoping for clarification.

Right, your question was answered and I quoted and responded to your subsequent question about an 8 year old and a 15 year old.

Under 3 won't have tickets so the MB (if they get one is) "decorative" and they can accompany the rest of the party with FP+ without tapping in.

No, the magic band for an under 3 year old will not open the door. As stated above it is “nonfunctional “ it is “decorative “. It is simply so they can have one but since they don’t need tickets or count in the room count their magic band doesn’t do anything.

Ok so not all MB will, got it. Thanks.

So they actually have no chips in them? Does that mean they don’t show up in my photopass if they are off riding with someone not in my friends and family list?

I don't want to go against what mesaboy is saying, but I've never heard anyone say that bands for kids under 3 won't open a door. We don't KNOW that the bands are active, because we don't have FPs or tickets on the account for an under-3, and no one would put charging on their account, but it doesn't totally make sense for their bands to be "dead".

I’ve read reports of them successfully interfacing with FP touchpoints (they turn Mickey blue, not green, obv) so the purely decorative angle doesn’t quite make sense to me either.

My experience from two years ago... they sent my youngest a functional band. It could open the hotel room door. She always tapped and it turned the tapstiles blue.
