Magic Band newbie with old ticket question...

We will soon be visiting WDW for the first time since Magic Bands were introduced. I've read up on these and feel relatively squared away about them now. (At least I hope so.)

My questions are regarding some old plastic No Expire tickets we have with days left on them. Our package for the upcoming trip includes park tickets, so I don't plan to use any of those from the old tickets. But we didn't take the Water Park + option in this package, and we have plenty of unused WP days on the old No Expire tix.

1) Can we go to a water park one day using our old tickets/days instead of the new package "tickets" (Magic Bands)? [?] If so, do we need to tell the CM or do anything special re: old tix vs. Bands? [?]

2) Do we have to link our old No Expire tix to the Magic Bands to use them? [?] If not, I don't really see an upside to doing so (unless I am missing something) and I do certainly see a potential for confusion along the way (getting charge a No Expire park day instead of one from our current package, etc.).

Am I over-thinking all of this?

I do that sometimes... :scratchin

1) Yes. But you DO have to convert any old "paper" tickets
(or older plastic non-RFID tickets) to the new plastic RFID tickets (Free at any guest relations.)

Cool, thanks!

Yes, these are the more recent plastic/RFID tickets, no paper.

The only other issue with them is that my son has turned 10 since they were bought, but he did use his for park admission before he turned 10 so they should be able to update/upgrade his at check-in, right?

If they can't/won't do the free upgrade to Adult ticket at check-in, it can be done in a minute or two at any Guest Relations at any park or at DTD.

They can do that upgrade at the Water Park Guest Relations before you enter.

Thanks again!

(Didn't make it back yesterday to tell you, but I appreciate the help!)

we were told at our resort last trip that they could not change our daughter's ticket to an adult. We would have to go to guest relations in DTD or the parks.

Of course, I was also told, in response to an inquiry on housekeeping, that they were only cleaning rooms every other day. That was, to be polite, bullhockey.

Sort of the byword of this forum, eh? :lmao:

We band together to sort through what is FACT and what is CM bullhockey.

So ... once I have one of the plastic keys with a non expired ticket on it, I can still use that? It doesn't have to be added to my MB? Are there still card readers at entrances? I've only been to WDW once since the MB launch, and that was when it was in it's very early stages.

I've had a day or two no-expiry for the past 3-4 years and just never bothered to go to Guest Relations to find out anything. My days are on the plastic cards, not paper ones.

You take your plastic ticket if it is not the RFID ticket to guest relations and they will give you a new RFID card to replace your "plain" plastic ticket. Then you just hold up your RFID card to the reader like you would a magic band and you're all set. We have non-expiring tickets and did this with no issues.

So …

1- once I have one of the plastic keys with a non expired ticket on it, I can still use that?

2- It doesn't have to be added to my MB?

3- Are there still card readers at entrances? I've only been to WDW once since the MB launch, and that was when it was in it's very early stages.

4- My days are on the plastic cards, not paper ones.

1- If it is an RFID card, then, Yes.
2a- Correct.
3- The readers at the gate read RFID. The same RFID that is in the MagicBands and the flat plastic RFID tickets.
4- All valid tickets can be exchanged for RFID cards, free-of-charge, at any Guest Relations of Ticket Booth at WDW.

2b- Just to keep things as clear as possible-

There is no reservation info, or ticket info, or credit card info,
or FP+ info "added to" a MagicBand.

The MagicBands just contain a unique serial number that is used
to access the information that is stored in your MyDisneyExperience computer file.

So, even if you were to lose a MagicBand, the info stays locked in your file.
Disney can just set up a new band (different serial number)
to access the info in your MDE file.
Disney can also issue ADDITIONAL MB's to a guest and each
additional band can be used for the same purposes as the first band.
So, yes, there can be multiple MB's per person, and each of them can be used by that person.

The MagicBand works like the combination to a locked safe, or a key to a locked door.

Why does this distinction matter?
Because there is so much fear about losing bands and,
in turn, losing all of a guest's information thought to be on the band.

The MB, itself, is not the file of info or the container of the info.
The MB just unlocks the file of info, allowing it to be accessed from your MDE account when needed.

Thank you! This is very important information that I think everyone should know. :thumbsup2
