I apologize if this has been asked before, but what is the magic band made of? I have extremely sensitive skin. I can't wear those "live strong" type bracelets without getting a rash. Silly question, but a serious one!

Thanks!!

They are more porous than the other bracelets. You can always keep it in your pocket or attach it to a bag or belt loop.

The outer casing is made of thermal plastic polyurethane.

They reminded me a lot of a Swatch watch band. I hated the material and was hoping they would be more like the livestrong bracelets.

I ended up shoving the band into my pocket.

I wore mine looped through a lanyard all week and has no problems using it. In fact, i saw others struggle to twist their wrist into the right position and I just tapped mine and was on my way. A CM at my resort said how smart that was, as the readers were put in before the bands and designed for cards and it was an awkward height/position for a wrist to unlock it.

They are listed as being hypo-allergenic.

If the OP is anything like me, it's not a matter of it being hypo-allergenic. I don't have an allergy to anything (AFAIK), but I tend to get eczema from anything that allows sweat/bacteria to build up. When I wore watches (in the dark ages before cell phones) I would get a rash under the band. I now wear a JawboneUP activity tracker, which is not skin tight at all, and I still get rashy if I happen to sweat under it.

I'm expecting I'll have a similar problem with the MB, especially as it will be very warm while we are there. I'll probably just try to make sure to take it off at night to make sure my skin has a chance to breathe, and maybe keep it hooked around my bag/belt loop when we are not in the parks.

I will get reactions to some watch bands(usually non metal ones) and the MB gave me no problems. I did take it off at night and to shower though. And I tried not to wear it too tight- left a little gapping.

For sweat issues: you can consider buying or making your own "coverband". The ones at the parks are a swimsuit-type material, like what a bikini is made out of. It keeps things much cooler than just wearing the band on its own, and it dries quickly. And here is a tutorial for making your own.

Positioning: we started wearing them with the mickey head to the outside-side of our wrists. Then we would just choose the pole on the side we wear them on (like finding a gas pump, you usually go to the correct side for your car). Put the arm straight up, move the arm slightly to the side to make easy contact with the pole's mickey head. SO much easier than twisting the wrist.

As for paying for things, the readers are ALMOST made as though they expected us to put the mickey heads on the bottom of our wrist. Drape the hand over the reader; mickey head under the wrist connecting with the reader's mickey head, then for my hands it's *almost* perfectly positioned to key in the PIN without moving the hand much. (of course, this is a wonderful method of disease transmission; almost as good as the "honey wall" in the Pooh queue, which goes along with my amusing-to-me theory that Disney is trying to create an epidemic for some reason...everything they are doing just seems to involve touching!)

Those are my thoughts on the MB. :) I totally thought it would physically irritate me, but it didn't cause a single reaction. Bothered me in other ways, but I didn't break out or itch or anything.

DD and I both have very sensitive skin. The magic bands didn't bother us at all. I was surprised that they didnt cause a rash and we actually didnt mind wearing them.

The material that contacts your skin and also on the outside is a TPU (thermal poly urethane). In this case, neoprene that is often used in wet suits. It is hypoallergenic and water proof. For those worried, think about the fact that tens of thousands of people have worn these with no reports of significant reaction. The material was chosen so that it wouldn't be a source of allergic reactions and skin problems.

Just got back from a week at the parks and wore the band every day for at least 12 hours in 90-degree+ temps. Somewhere around Day 4 or 5, I developed a rash that grew as the week went on. Not horrible, and not enough to get me to stop wearing the band, but definitely a bother.

I'm wondering if somewhere down the road Disney might come up with an alternate lanyard or corded belt-clip version.
