Magic band hotel/park

In the past we would check into our hotel on day of arrival and get our keys to the world. Now that we have magic bands, do we have to check in to activate our magic bands for park or can we head straight to parks on arrival?

In the past we would check into our hotel on day of arrival and get our keys to the world. Now that we have magic bands, do we have to check in to activate our magic bands for park or can we head straight to parks on arrival?

I actually called about this just the other day. We are arriving early in the morning (hubby is driving through the night) so I needed to know if we could head straight to the park, or if I needed to get our magic bands activated first. The CM said that we just needed to go check in at our resort first to activate the bands. Chances are a room won't be ready for us yet, but they'd activate our bands, get our number, we could ride the shuttle to a park, they'd text us when our room was ready, and we could just head to our room whenever we were ready with no need to go back to the front desk since we'd already be checked in. You still have to check into the resort; the resort won't know if you have arrived if you head straight to the parks and don't check in anyway - whether you have the magic bands or not.
