I just bought a new tent this morning because it was on clearance for $99 and they only had 2 left. I'm gonna do a backyard runthrough later this week, but was wondering if anyone has one of these and if they consider it to be a good tent before I even take it out of the box. If its a piece of garbage, I'd rather not set it up and bring it back to get a better one.

here's a pic with some info click here

One mans garbage is another mans,,,,future garbage,,:rotfl2:

I'm sure people that tent camp allot would disagree but aren't tents like golf balls,,,no I don't mean round white and dimply,,:lmao:
Most of the time, a beginner is not going to know the difference from a .50 golf ball and a $4.00 golf ball by look or performance.
I only guess that you would be a beginning tent camper because your asking if you have a .50 ball or $4.00 ball. I think I would have to be awfully serious before I bought a $4.00 ball.
While I don't get to tent camp anymore, I do still have a tent and I only had Three requirements,,,Dry, big enough to move around and tall enough to stand up and change.
Beyond that, I know less than nothing about tents,,,

We wanted weather resistant, durable, and easily set up so we bought a fifth wheel.

This post may not be any help but, it was fun to write,:lmao: :thumbsup2

Hey Rog!!

I can't answer your question as to whether or not this is a good tent, but if NTSammy5 doesn't see this - send him a PM. He is really into tent camping and knows enough to tell you if this is a good brand.

IMHO - for $99 - if you only get 4 or 5 trips out of it - you've gotten your money's worth. It looks good on "paper" & I personally like the size & the fact it has "rooms". Rick & I had a similar tent, oh, about 25 years ago that we bought from Penney's & paid $120 for & we thought that was a good deal. We got a lot of use from it for about 2 years & then gave it to some friends who used it A LOT for another 6 years or so. So I'd say - go for it!

Heck - with the size of your family - you can drop $99 on one trip to McDonald's!! (LOL)

Hugs! Deb ♥

I've done my share of tent camping being a Boy Scout then a Scout leader. I've had my share of cheap tents like this and while they are good for fair weather they are not meant for bad weather. The design of this tent will not keep out a prolonged or heavy rain storm. If you have the bad fortune to get stuck in a really heavy rain in something like this it can make for a miserable time and completely sour your perspective on tent camping. Go to REI.com look at their offerings and read the wealth of information they have on the subject.

Except for my one Coleman tent, I've pretty much used Wal-Mart tents and gotten many years of heavy use out of them (at least 8 weekends and a week at Ft. Wilderness per year). Just take good care of it and make sure you dry it out thoroughly after EVERY trip.

However, most tents on their capacity, divide that in half, especially if you want to put something besides just sleeping bags in there. The tent capacity means people only in sleeping bags only. No room for gear, no room for air mattresses or cots.

Also, I've had tents with "rooms" I tried the inside walls just one trip and have never used them since.

I'm gonna do a backyard runthrough later this week,

Come up here and set it up -- right on the 5 foot drift in the back yard.

Man that's a big tent -- even if you only use it a couple of times you'll get your money's worth out of it.

Just as an aside: I've bought a couple of cheap tents lately because I wanted a really big tent that was reasonably good. My opinion, like others, is that they will not hold up to really bad storms, especially since most have mesh ceilings with flys that fit over the top. having said that I have had really good luck with the ones I got. The new fabrics are really pretty good at repelling rain and they are surprisingly versatile. I have a few good tents I use for backpacking and winter camping, but you're talking about significantly more money for them and they don't tend to be as big as the tent you got. Go with the one you got and just leave if the weather gets too bad.

If the weather is supposed to be rainy, just get a giant tarp and some rope. Tie each of the corners of the tarp to a tree. You will have one major rain fly!!!!
