My 6 yo has had a subscription to the Thomas the Tank Engine magazine for a couple of years. He announced to us that it is for babies. He wants something else. So what mags do all of you get for your kids???????

Try Ranger Rick. My girls loved it.

We like Highlights here, too and Nickelodeon magazine. :)

My 7 yr old DD loves Disney Adventures. 11 yr old DS use to enjoy Nickelodeon.

Ditto what Serena said...

This is weird but Kate (6 yrs old) has requested her own subscription to The National Geographic! :lol

She also wanted The Smithsonian...

That is one strange request from a child!

Highlights was always a favorite of mine and I think it's recommended by many teachers for ages 6-10 or so.

Ds loves ZooKids! He knows what time of the month
it comes and starts talking about it a day or two before.

Check out the 'Cricket' magazine family! Arranged by age, it starts with Babybug, then Ladybug, then Spider and then Cricket for the older kids. No, it's not about insects. It's some of the best stories, poems, plays, cartoons and other literature for kids that I've ever seen. For samples, their website is:
www.cricketmag.com

When my DS was that age we got him Ranger Rick and Nickleodeon magazines.

swanmom-Has Cricket mag been around a long time? I think I got that one, once upon a time.

DISmnagain-I had a subscription to National Wildlife Mag when I was a youngster. I loved all the pictures of the animals.

Thank you everyone. I might try and go to the library and see if they have any of these so we can look at them.

For now he's happy with the Nick mag I bought him at the drugstore.

Pembo,
It's been around for quite a while. I used it often when I was teaching elementary school 15 years ago. I think your choice depends on your goal -- silly fun, relating to a particular topic or interest, more reading oriented (Cricket) vs. more photo oriented (Ranger Rick), etc. Good luck with this. It's a fun choice to have to make - there are so many options. How about a trip to the children's section of the library to see what your DS gravitates toward????

I forgot about the Cricket magazines! Those too are very good. I also had a National Geographic subscription as a child. I think I may order that for us right now:p ! Good idea! I think I also use to get Humpty Dumpty or Jack and Jill as a kid, can't really remember;) ! DS enjoyed Ranger Rick for a bit. I let my kids pick out something now and then at Borders or Books a Million, they have a good selection. Then we decide if it is worth a subscription.
