Can anyone recommend an age appropriate magazine for my 13 year old daughter? She likes fashion and crafty things. I don't want anything to mature for her. She used to get American Girl two years ago and wants something different. Thanks.

My 13 year old likes Discovery Girls and Seventeen. Sometimes Seventeen articles can be a little too mature. However she really like the beauty and fashion sections so I have edited a few articles that I felt were unappropriate for her.

My DD is 12 and likes Girl's Life (GL). It is age appropriate and has both fashion and crafts according to her.

I am considering getting DD11 a subscription to Teen Vogue - the articles seem to be a lot less focused on boys than magazines like Seventeen, and more focused on just being happy with yourself, dealing with friends, etc. But I still need to review the advertising to make sure that's not too objectionable.

Have you looked at Kiki magazine? I have an 11 year old girl, and she loves it. It seems like it is for older tweens/young teens (older than AG). It isn't cheap, but there aren't any ads, either. Check out kikimag.com. You might find an issue in Barnes and Noble or your local library if you want to see one in person.

When I was her age, I read Girl's Life and Teen Vogue. I still read Teen Vogue now and again- the articles are more focused on fashion than on boys and things like 17. There are still some articles that can be iffy, though- stuff on drugs and articles on current popular celebrities.

I started reading Seventeen about that age...I think I was almost 14 when I started reading Seventeen regularly though.

I also enjoyed American Girl when I was about 11-13. It seems like a lot of the other magazines I read (Teen People, YM) are all gone. Such a shame :(

My next door neighbor has an 12 year old granddaughter and she loves Teen Vogue and Girl's Life.

My 12 yr old loves Discovery Girls. Her subscription has expired so now she asks to go to the libary to read it.

Discovery Girls, or the edited version of Seventeen- the one where you tear out the two pages of so-called dating advice. The rest is usually fine.

My dd11 currently gets Girls Life cheap from Groupon or similiar site. She asked if they ever have a good deal if she could get Discovery Girls since she loves reading it when we go to the library. I recently looked around and found the best price to be from ebay and may order it for her. Now I'm trying to figure out a good magazine for my dd7.

For the 7 year old have you looked at the Phineas & Ferb magazine. DD is a few years older but loves to get it in the mail.
