magazine for 12 year old?

My DD would not have been interested in Teen Beat or those other magazines when she was 12 (she just turned 14). I can tell you that when she was 12, she always wanted to read Time, Newsweek, Womans Day, Family Circle and National Geographic :lmao:.

Many times when we are traveling, we'll go into a bookstore and I will suggest that she choose a magazine, I'm always waiting to see if she'll go for one of the teen type magazines, but she never does. It's always one of the ones I listed above or something like Nintendo Power, Xbox Magazine or the like. :rotfl:

I just (today) broke down and subscribed DD13 to Time after months of her begging for it. I am glad to know she is not the only oddball girl out there:rotfl:

I agree with you. Seventeen is really more for a college age girl, IMO. When *I* was 17 it didn't have all the articles about sex and pleasing your boyfriend, it was more about fashion. Now Seventeen seems to be the poor cousin of Cosmopolitan, definitely not the message I want to give my DD.

My DD17 loves Teen Vogue. I have not found anything objectionable about it. I'm not a fashionista at all, so nothing about Vogue/Teen Vogue appeals to me. But I don't feel like I have to hide the magazines when her grandmother comes over for a visit.

Seventeens really not as bad as people on here are making it out to be. I've been getting 17 sense I was about 12 and loved the fashion and articles. The sex, period, and boyfriends stuff was really never into great detail and most I had already heard from my mom or heath classes.
They always have great articles about self esteem in there and the story's were good. My sister who's 13 now gets it and likes it.
I guess what I'm saying is, the stuff in 17 is stuff that girls in junior high and high school are wondering about and will find out through friends or the internet.
There are no articles about how to please your man or how to have great sex in 17 (or at least there hasn't been sense Ive been getting it!), more like how to kiss or is my period irregular. :lmao: I find those articles perfectly appropriate to girls in the 15-17 range.
I don't think any college age girl would want 17 wayyyyy to young, by the time your 19 or 20 you don't care about kissing your boyfriend, or if your periods irregular at least I know I don't. Me and my roomate get glamor, people, and cosmo at our apartment.
Ok rant, over I understand that some people don't want there girls to read 17 just thought I would speak my 2 cents on the magazine becuase Ive read recent issues for years now and there really not that bad! :)

thank you for saying what I couldn't

DD13 likes J-14. It's a fun celeb rag for teens. She liked it better than Tiger Beat and all that.

Another vote for Teen Vogue. I always liked that and Elle Girl because they are more girl-centric than the other teen magazines that are already focused on how to get and then keep a guy by catering to his every need.

Isn't there a big difference between 12 and 15-17? :confused3

At that age three-four years is quite a long time.

Thanks to this thread I bought my DD a copy of Tiger Beat and J14 and she loved them both :). Does anyone know where the best place to BUY those magazines? It's been forever since I've done something like this. I have the J14 blow in from the magazine and it's $15 for 10 issues which doesn't seem like a great deal to me.
