Maelstrom?

I looked around a bit and found no information about a Frozen themed attraction replacing the Maelstrom.

This just seems to be online rumors and guess work at this point

I personal like maelstrom and hope they keep Maelstrom.:thumbsup2

I think screamscape and jim hill have mentioned it...but its totally blue sky right now

question, whats your view on Cars Land?

A slam dunk with boys, American gear heads, and Pixar fans?

Little different, huh?
My last comment...because again it's all theory...is that I need more info. I don't trust insiders and I don't think anybody should either...because the empirical evidence is that they don't exist. All insider breaks are calculated and sent directly from the upper echelon of TWDC. They're a box of screwdrivers and wrenches.
Assuming that...every new development has to be a corporate agenda (not unreasonable...but can't be ignored)
So Perhaps disney wants us to think that they are "buying" this elite property...you know - as a "gift" for the loyal client base that is under a full scale price assault and had been through the ridiculously bad five years of economy...and that goofy joe rhode won't screw it up this time?
...but the truth is more complicated?

Out there a little...I admit...stranger things happen.

I hope they redo the maelstrom...but I don't think they will officially. (Back on topic)
There is also the stance that they need to stop dumbing EPCOT down with characters and maybe stand their ground on the concept they originally built...which was one of a kind and awesome. But that may be irrelevant.

Interesting to think what could be done with Maelstrom to make it Frozen, and make it new and fun. Any ideas?

However, I have doubts about the story and how much they would change Maelstrom. The ride is fun and all about Norway. Why would Norway want their main attraction changed drastically? Unless, they are just going to add some Frozen references to the existing ride which seems far more likely. In which case, it won't be any big deal. An ice castle in the background somewhere, Olaf, Sven, Anna, and Elsa stuck in here or there for kids to pick out.

But then, Maybe a whole makeover would be popular...

Unlike the others pavilions...Norway was not built and sponsored by Norway...
It was a travel consortium of business and government bureaus from multiple countries led by Norway... If I recall... And is
Now defunct.
The Internet made such things irrelevant.

So maybe Disney has more autonomy to do what they want in this case... And conveniently for the new giftshops... China is right next door.

So what does that tell you?
The idea that Disney would "fastrack" anything 5 weeks after a movie opened is fools fodder...isn't it?
California adventure was a rotting carcass for 10 and cars was 5 years old when they built that...not exactly "urgency"

I wish you would be wrong more.

I think that right now in the dwarf building in Burbank there are two interns (one from cal tech and one from USC film school) who are in a room brainstorming ideas for frozen in EPCOT...

And right now in an auditorium next door there are 500 phoneys in $2,000 suits drinking mimosas - sitting next to their junior "assistants" (aka girlfriends/ boyfriends fresh back from spin class) brainstorming when the next ticket increase at wdw should be released and what price per point the poly should be...

It is that time of year ;)

im totally with you on this...Disney is not urgent in anything they do see SDMT

In general I definitely agree, however, Frozen is now not the normal Disney movie and times may be changing. While unlikely, if Frozen continues its meteoric journey, than doing something sooner rather than later is possible. At least possible.

There is something different about Frozen. It is extremely popular and will surpass $600 million, but it is the fact that it is a princess movie that appeals to people who hate princess movies that make it something special. I know people who dislike Little Mermaid and some other princess movies with a passion, that like the messages in Frozen.

So if the phenomenon continues or expands, then all bets are off.

Everyone knows that the reasons for updates and upgrades is more people in the parks. I would not put it past the higher ups to have at least been thinking about something like this.

Iger, wants the bottom line to continue and with so many Imagineers running around the world right now (AvatarLand etc...) the possibility could be there.

Now for reality, historically speaking Disney is slow to adapt look at Little Mermaid or anything else for that matter. Long runs of rides pay off in the end, but with the advent of Frozen being a much better film than expected this could still be a possibility. Just might take them 2 or 3 years though....

Just might take them 2 or 3 years though....

Which we've come to expect and is inexcusable in my opinion. It did not use to take five years to build fairly standard/ stock stuff....and still doesn't (as proven up in doctor Phillips)

This is deliberate. There's almost nothing innovative about the "new" fantasyland. They should have been able to build it in their sleep.

Actually, I believe with the exception of Morocco none of the other pavilions were funded directly by the governments - it was all via corporate donations and sponsorships.

In the case of Norway, I believe the plan was for a general Scandinavian pavilion, but only a consortium from Norway stepped up.

The Norwegian government did provide annual payments for about 10 years towards operational costs for tourism purposes. But that stopped over a decade ago.

Yeah...something like that.

As far as the other countries goes...I think they all had some sort of "quasi public government/private tourism companies" that we're the figureheads...but still basically a government call.

But they're all "socialist"
Which is code for "decades ahead on social services, healthcare, and retirement" ;)

If there is a Frozen attraction built at Epcot, please, PLEASE do not let it be another lame Nemo, Little Mermaid piece of junk.

Can we get an "Amen". The best thing about both of them is the cues.

Aaaaaaaaaaamen!

I'll go to battle with a 4 year old any day :yay:

Frozen would make an awesome dark ride. Especially if they utilized the former heat and cool systems they had on the original Test Track. That could be so fun! The chills of the frozen castle and town and the heat of the beach from day dreaming Olaf.

I think a new Frozen upgrade makes perfect sense for Disney.

Think about it, the cost is minimal for a new FROZEN attraction that stars new very popular characters from a massive animated hit.

They already have the building and ride system built.
The current theming is dated and needs to be redone anyway.

They can market a "NEW RIDE IN EPCOT"
They can market Very Popular New Characters

No need for expensive new designs, ride systems and buildings, Just new theming.

And the ride dumps right into a gift shop full of toys and a Character Meet n' Greet!

It would actually be crazy if they don't do it.
