Made my 1st DVC reservation! (And a booking question)

I finally got my membership id and was able to call for my club id and activation code. I'm so excited! I booked a reservation at our home resort but if I want to switch at the 7 month window, do I count back 7 months from the day? So for instance a 10 day, May 16, 2017 reservation could be booked at non home resort on October 16th this year, correct?

Yes, it is 7 months from the day of arrival. The main confusing thing is when your arrival date is the 31st, and your 11 or 7 month window is a month with only 30 (or 28/29) days. In that case, you would need to wait until th 1st to book the 31st. One thing to remember is that if you book at the 11 or 7 month window EXACTLY, you can only book 7 consecutive nights. No big deal -- the room you book is taken out of inventory until your checkout date, so you simply call MS and add the extra days a few days later.

Not sure what the 10 days means, but if you're going may 16th, then you book October 16th, but only for 7 nights. If you want more nights, then you call the next day and add a day and continue until you get all your days. However, if you are going may 16th and want 10 nights, you could book on October 19th for 10 days, but you take a chance of not getting your first 3 nights that way.

Or, using your example, if you're going 5/16/17 for 10 days, you call 10/16/16 and book the first 7 nights. Then you call on 10/20/16 and add the other 3 nights. You have no risk waiting 4 days to call back and add the extra days, since no one can book the room you have reserved until the 7th day.
