I really want a 100 point add-on at BCV, but I don't want to take on any more debt. Therefore, I've decided to use my 150 DVC points for Sunday through Thursday stays, and treat myself to deluxe accommodations on the weekends with my AP discount. This will allow me to have three trips to WDW per year (that is until 2004 when I add on more points!!).

How many of you fellow DVCers have made this choice?

There are members who avoid weekends like the plague. I couldn't be bothered. I bought enough points for my desired vacation without moving.

Happy Day!

That's our plan for the time being. We will hopefully do a significant add-on in the next year or two when we can afford it, but being new homeowners, that may be a while ;)

There a still a few resorts on Disney property that we've yet to try and all of them are Non-DVC, so spending the weekends elsewhere gives us that chance.

Of course, that being said, we're doing a full week (including 2 Saturdays and a Friday) at OKW. It all depends on when we'll be going and how many points we have stashed away.

You gotta do what works for you!!

Have fun!

We've never tried that plan, may have to give it a whirl. Although the thought of moving during a trip is not all that appealing but I guess it would be very worth it if I got to take more trips during the year.

I'm with Richyams, I can't imagine wasting time moving from one room/resort to another, even on my 9 day stays. I want to settle in and enjoy my stay. I do try to check in on Sunday, stay through one weekend, and leave the following Tuesday.

I don't like moving resorts (or rooms) mid-stay. If I were you I'd start saving the money you're going to spend on the deluxe resorts on the weekend and buy more points!

We always move for the weekends, that way we get to stay for 2 weeks. We don't find it to be a bother either to move, gives us a chance to have fun at another resort.
However, my kids are 9 and 11 so I am not lugging a lot of little kid stuff either.

I'm with you, RAMWDWFAN. If I felt we could afford it, I'd love to buy some more points. However with two kids still in college, we just can't justify it for a few more years. So for now, we're trying to stick to Sunday through Thursday and looking at the less expensive (point-wise) times of year. But someday......

Since we live too far away to drive, and we are not huge fans of flying, we plan on going to Disney every other year for as long as we can in a 2BR.

We have young children and too much stuff, so having to move on the weekend would be a big pain for us, even if we could stay longer. Maybe when the kids are older and can carry their own luggage (and ours, too)! lol

I guess I am just lucky; I live in Miami, I can get the Seasonal pass ($189), own my own business, so I plan my weekend getaways to be Sunday and Monday nights. I hate crowds, so not only do I try to avoid the weekends, but I don't show up in the summertime either. My plans are to vist the Orlando area about 5 times a year for 2 day stays, and an extended vacation in September (5 week nights).

This is all doable with the 200 points I purchased at BVC.

Although I haven't done this myself, it sounds like a great idea. I don't have a ton of points, like some folks here, if I did I wouldn't worry about moving either. For some of us other folks, who don't have the amt of pts that we would like to have, we need to be creative. You are the one who has to pay your bills and if you can't afford anymore pts right now, than be as creative as possible. That's why pts are by the day, so you can be creative! I'm being creative this May by doing the 3 night cruise because it sails on Thur and returns on Sun (high pt days for DVC - Fri & Sat) and then on Sun I am checking into BWV and staying through Friday. I have been fortunate enough that I am not one who has had to borrow from the following yr to do what I want to do. I am comfortable for the moment. I have 250 pts. I would like to buy another 100 pts, but it's not in the budget at the moment, so we will continue to be creative. We like to go once a yr for about 8-10 days per trip, I have not had a problem arranging this. We are a family of 4 with 2 sm children and airfare is a killer for us, that's why once a yr is good for me. Have fun no matter what you decide ;)

I'm with Polly Ann. Too many kids (5 under 12), too much stuff, and too far for us to drive to WDW. Airfare alone is a minimum of $1400 if we get great fares, so we make our stay as long as possible and go less often.

Hi,
We only recently bought DVC. My wife Melissa and I have been going to wdw together since 1998. We typically do two kinds of trips each year. One kind is a long weekend, Friday-Monday. We usually try to do this over MLK weekend in January and for a long weekend in the fall, Sept. or Oct. The other type of trip we have been doing in May, but we may go to spring break time in March. For that, we go a week, which is really 9 days with the two book end weekends.

We wouldn't ever change resorts on the long weekends, but (maybe because we do the long weekends) we couldn't imagine staying at one resort for 9 days! We'd get bored of it and itchy to go somewhere else. We typically split that stay to stay 1/2 the time at a mk resort and go to MK and AK while we are there, and 1/2 at an epcot resort and go to MGM and epcot while there. When we are at the MK resort, we can eat at the restaurants we like over there very easily; while we are at the epcot resort, we can eat at the resaurants over there.

Moving is very easy, just call bell services to pick up your bag and ask them to send it on to resort B, and go do whatever you wanted to do that day. That night, instead of going back to resort A go back to resort B and check in and pick up your bags. No big deal. To me, it is more of a hassle to be staying at wilderness lodge and decide that you want to go have dinner at flying fish, then do the transportation shuffle to get over there and back. I'd rather just do the one simple move and then enjoy the convenience of that new location. We don't have to worry about parking a rental car, and we don't have to ride busses every where we go. But then, too, we aren't heavy packers and only just take a carry on bag a piece.

Our weekend trip this past Sept was to AKL, and that seems like a perfect sort of place to split a stay with. Do the weekend at AKL and eat at boma and jiko and go see the Animal Kingdom. I wouldn't want to spend more than a couple of nights there, because everything is a bus ride from there. But wow those couple of nights are well worth it! Then move to dvc during the week. We haven't done it yet, but someday we'll probably try one of the universal resorts on the weekend. We've learned that in off season months it is better to spend your weekend days at the MK resort and your week night days at the epcot resort, because the MK hours are longer on the weekends whereas epcot and mgm are longer on the weeknights - that way, we can stay for illuminiations or go to mgm and walk right home instead of standing on a bus for the ride back.

For us, by the time you fly down there, if you are going to be there 9 days you might as well get a double trip out of it while you are there. Plus we don't have enough time to be able to go for 2 weeks at a time or something, so we are used to the "long weekend" model - so a week trip becomes two long weekend trips with one flight! I think I'd go nuts being at the same place for 9 days!

That's not to say we'd never use our points for a weekend, we have a long weekend booked on points right now. But it is great to have the flexibility to say "OK, in Jan. we can take a long weekend at bwv, in May we can go for a week, staying on cash at AKL for the weekend and then the weekdays at a studio at bcv, and hey, since we stayed the weekend at AKL we have enough points for a studio for a weekend at WLV in september!" On another year it might be a different plan. That is why the point flexibility, rather than buying into a given week, is such a great thing to me.

Isn't it funny how people look at things differentlly - the flexibility really is great, it works for people in so many different ways.

We bought 200 OKW points in 1997, and have done the weekend stay at a hotel then move to the DVC property on Sunday or Monday every year since then. Quite frankly, I've enjoyed it because it does give me a chance to stay in a different hotel every time, as we would usually try to book our weekend time into the different resorts each time. Have been to WL, AKL, BC, BW, POR, POFQ, CB, CS and enjoyed each.

That being said, we have gotten somewhat spoiled by the DVC properties, having the washer.dryer in room, having the 1BR with the separate living/dining area etc, so we just bought a resale that will effectively give us enough points to be able to go into a DVC property and spend our entire stay there, weekends included.

I think you have to do what works for you, financially and from a enjoyment of your vacation standpoint. As I said, I never minded moving much, but I do think to have the whole stay in one place will be nice...maybe give us more of a chance to spend time at the DVC property.

Our trip next week has us staying at AS Sports on saturday, VWL Sun-Thur and WL Fri. This was mainly due to lack of points and excessive compulsive point borrowing:rolleyes: Just added 100 BCV points to our 170 VWl points and are actually looking forward to a trip that is split between the two resorts sometime next year. We have never stayed at BCV, YCBC, Swan/Dolp or BW, so a stay at BCV with the boardwalk nearby and EPCOT at our backdoor sounds irresistable. But MK is still the park we want to visit first every trip, more MAGIC, so the proximity of the VWL to MK is a plus.
