Mad Men Discussion Thread

That scene really reminded me of a book I just read, "The Help". It's set in the south in the 60's and nannies were routinely let go with no notice even though they'd been the ones to raise the kids for years, just heartbreaking.

I was thinking the same thing......great read!

I thought the Good News episode with Lane really drunk was great! The Suitcase is on tomorrow, love this programme!

It was awful that Betty let carla go when the children really need her. Don wanting to marry Madge is crazy. He hardly knows her. I wonder if Dr. Faye will take being dumbed with such grace. She knows everything about DD, we'll see next season. I such a long wait, I hate that.

Just. Got my mad men fix! Brian bratt- Sal- is doing
a Christmas tourism commercial for
new Orleans
:cool1:

Kind of OT but did anyone see the Don Draper/Mad Men bit on Conan last night? It was hilarious! :rotfl2:

Anyone know when season 5 is going to start? And will they replay season 4? I have only seen season 1-3 (on DVD). TIA :flower3:

AMC just confirmed that there will be a Season 5 yesterday. However, they have yet to make a deal with the Matthew Weiner. They won't even begin work on Season 5 until that deal is signed, sealed and delivered, so expect Season 5 in 2012, rather than this summer.

Gotta have my midcentury fix!! I was Sally except my dad didn't cheat-they just drank martinis and manhattans every night and we had all the cool furniture. Oh, Dad didn't look like Don Draper either but he had great suits!!!

Cannot believe I missed this thread. I am a HUGE Mad Men fan!! :lovestruc

My handsome DH and I want Sal Romano to come back too, we liked his character on the show a ton. He added something simply special with his class. :) His fake marriage, his talent, and his unwillingness to even admit he was gay, was just smashing. Loved him. ;)

Knew Joan was going to be pregnant!! Targeted that from the first episode! Her husband is not that great, and it infuriates me the way he treated her before. She just is relentless though with that relationship, seems like it will fail. Why did Joan stoop? Her and Roger have a great connection. As pathetic as it was, their sex scene was kind of hot. KIND OF. I love Roger Sterling. And I relate to Joan a lot. Not the affair of course, but the way they portray her at work. How she is a strong woman, yet still fragile. She works her tail off, yet is still looked at only for her body and looks. At the end of the day, when she left Sterling Cooper she went into retail, that bothered me. Why would a corporate woman go to retail? Who knows.

I am a Don Draper fan, that man can do so many wrong things, but at the end of the day he is still just the handsome Dick Whitman, a lost soul. Not sure what the new whole marriage to his secretary will add to this season coming, but I am going to watch. I was disappointed in the way he treated Dr Faye; it was awful. She was so perfect for him, but I think he has a fear of real connections with people. Thus his secretary's advances and that weird proposal. I sort of like them together, but I am just not sure how this will play out.

Betty drove me crazy last season. :scared1: She was out of sorts. Her reactions towards Don at the start of the season were upsetting. Her marriage is pathetic, and her children (Sally the most, with that cute but crazy boyfriend-that boy bothers me a bit) are paying the price. Do you think that Betty will be driven into mania after seeing Don married?

I loved Anna too! She was such a wonderful and peaceful character. I teared up after seeing she passed, and Don's reaction. His reaction was perfect.

OK that is all I can write about, my children are pulling at me for cocoa. :) Bye all! :goodvibes

(Look on the bright side: Better than the show being canceled eh? ;))

Mad Men has always taken a nine month hiatus. This time it might be five months longer. It isn't a year-long difference, at least as far as anyone knows at this point.

Besides that, they don't have a choice: If they guy doesn't want to do the work, right now, they can't make him. Weiner isn't their slave, and this isn't the only important thing in his life.

I think viewers who like a drama series will always think any significant hiatus (beyond the length of their own personal vacation, perhaps :)) is stupid. I wonder what type of drama series folks think it would it be especially good to have long hiatuses? Mad Men, at least deliberately puts years of passed-time between each season, so it seems a long hiatus makes more sense for Mad Men than for other drama series.

Mad Men can be on hiatus for a year, as long as they come back! :) I cannot wait for them to come back though. Between Breaking Bad and Mad Men having later starts for their next seasons I am going batty!!

Just wanted to let everyone know that MAD MEN Season 4 will be out MARCH 29, 2011!

:cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:
