Someone tried to charge $360 at some on-line thing. They also said there was a $1 charge at a place I've never heard of a few days ago. I wonder where they got my card number? :confused3 That card hasn't been out of my sight ever. Oh well. I had to cut up my card and hopefully I will get a new one in a few days. I am very upset by the whole thing even though it didn't cost me anything.

Well, be thankful it was caught.

I had my iTunes hacked for $350 and since it was linked to my Paypal account they got the money from my CC AND my bank account.

I spent hours with iTunes, Paypal, Visa and my bank to straiten it all out.

I wonder where they got my card number?

Sometimes they don't even need your number - I've read about crooks who use number generators - they just try random numbers (often for a small amount) to see if it goes through.

They could have gotten your card number from just about any where. I guess they run the $1 charge thru, first, to make sure it will be accepted. If that goes thru, they start running up more. It is frustrating. The last time I had a problem like this, we had just gotten back from WDW and I had used my card there. Chase Disney caught the activity and notified me and we canceled that card and issued another. They were very good about it.

Good luck and I hope this gets taken care of smoothly for you. :goodvibes

I had one that Bank of America caught last week. Someone tried to use my card for Napster and then for the Apple Store. I understand that Napster is a place they try first THEN go for the big things.

Soooo glad it was caught.

I work for a local bank in customer service, alot of transactions have started with a purchase made online by the customer on reputible sites like Amazon.com but a few days later strange charges start appearing. Also iTunes accounts have been hacked in many cases and they start off with a .99 cent start randomly here and there and the charges get larger and larger and can go on for a few months if not caught specially when customers are also making purchases they just assume it was one of theres when they see the small amounts and ignore it.

Same here. Couple of months ago, someone did the same to me. My SW Chase Card was charged a small amount, something like a $1.58. Chase called me the moment it happened and asked if I had authorized a purchase. They said most hackers test the card first to see if transactions go through before they start trying to make large purchases. It was a pain to deal with, but I was thankful for Chase catching it before I was hit for much more.

I had that happen with my AmEx. Someone got hold of the number and used it at a liquor store in New Jersey (for something like $300). The card has not been out of my house and the ONLY place I ever use it is online with Ticketmaster.com for AmEx concert ticket pre-sales. But, AmEx spotted the oddity right away and let me know, so it was all fixed up with no problem and they sent me a new card. Makes me wonder about Ticketmaster, though...

It happened to my wife with her Disney Visa.

She had only used the cards a couple of times for the initial bonus offer, and probably hadnt used it in 6 months when we got a call from Chase about suspicious activity.

Now idea how it happened, but all we had to do was fill out a form saying we didnt make the charges and they closed that card down.

OMG this exact thing happened to me a few weeks ago!! It was my local bank debit card. They tried a $1.00 charge to Napster and my bank caught it and put a freeze on my account.

I used my card that morning to grab a bagel and then tried to use it again two hours later and the bank had a freeze on it :thumbsup2

Great job done by my bank!!!

happens all the time..it's happened to us at least 4 times over the last 3 years on different cards. it's just a hazard of our times.
