Mad! Girl issues (boys stay out!)

I'm in the same boat and BCP aren't an option because they raise my blood pressure. I've also had adverse reactions to other hormone treatments. I'm waiting for my follow up appointment to find out what they're going to recommend for me - at my original appointment she said I'm probably looking at something surgical. She scheduled my labwork and ultrasound and then referred me. I wasn't able to get an appointment with the new doctor until March so I've been calling in hoping for cancelations.

At my ultrasound there were several interns so they were talking about everything they saw and boy, I learned a lot. One of my fibroids is the size of an orange. It sort of alarmed me - is that typical?

I'm a woman and a feminist but I have to say that this thread is just TMI! Waaaaaaay too TMI. ;)

That is toooo funny!!!
Oh, I hope you weren't serious ;)

I have some pretty major fibroids as well, but being on the pill I hardly know they are there.. and that lovely time of the month is very managable.

Is that a possibility for you?

I have PCOS (polycystic for those following along) and doc gave me the Mirena. I bled for about 3 months after I got it and was ready to have it removed. Doc convinced me to wait it out and finally it stopped. I now have nothing.......Can I tell you I don't miss it. :cool1: I've had the Mirena for about 3 years now and have had no problem with it.
My sister had it and had to have it removed. She is very susceptible to hormonal mood changes and this sent her off the wall. Not sure if it was all in her head or what. :lmao: I think it just gave her an excuse to be b****y. :rotfl2:
Good Luck with everything.

:) And for those that think this is TMI - go read another thread - there are thousands of them.

I have PCO also and went thru this. Horrible cycles lasting 8+ weeks and only getting them to stop by putting my on the strongest BCP out there and taking it 3 times a day. Yes, I took that horrid little pill 3 times a day. It made me so sick to my stomach I had to take phenergan to keep from throwing up. Finally had the ablation, and it was a God send. I had no cycles for over 3 years. They're back now, and very painful. I'm looking to the hysterectomy thing at this point. Good luck.

I have 4 fibroids that the doctor has said (for a few years)we can wait and see if they get any bigger. On my last visit he sent me for an ultrasound and after seeing the results..reccomended a hysterectomy.
I looked fibroids up on the internet and read about embolization. I made an appointment with an interventional radioligist who is sending me for an MRI tomorrow. I go right to his office afterward to see if I'm a candidate for this procedure. I hope I am able to get this pirate: since it's much less invasive. What they do is inject plastic pellets to block the blood supply feeding the fibroids which causes them to shrink and die.

Can you tell me how long you were out of work after the ablation?? If you don't work then how long until you were back to normal?? I missed 2 days after the D&C only because it was under general anestsia (sp?) and I have a physical job.

I went through the nonstop bleeding for 4 months, I got a hysterectomy b/c nothing else worked....and let me say, i'm glad I did.

Ive considered it - Im sick and tired of feeling so worn out, spending an arm and a leg on tampons, ruining pair after pair of undies and pajamas... And Im done having kids, so what's the point of having the dang thing, anyways? :confused3 !

More TMI here, sorry, but this might help a little. Just to save your sheets and clothing, you may want to do what I do. It's hardly attractive, but I use a disposable bed pad (we had them left over after my dad passed away, now I get them at Walgreen's) inside my underwear like a big adult diaper for overnights. I was only getting 1-2 hours of sleep before I had to get up and change a double super plus tampax plus a regular pad. I also need iron supplements because I got really anemic from the heavy bleeding.
Sometimes this girl stuff is just no fun!

So sorry you are going through this. I had a period for an entire month one time. It sucked!!! Last summer, I was getting periods every 2 weeks-full periods. The doctor gave me a list of suggestions such as birth control but with a huge family history of blood clots (in the women) there is no way I'm going to put myself at risk for that. They talked about doing a D & C and some other things with a full blown hysterectomy as the final solution. I'm only 38 and I'm not ready for that yet. I might be willing to do a D & C though. I don't have advice-just wanted you to know you aren't alone!! Sometimes knowing you aren't alone helps.

I guess I do have the advice of keep going-I am still trying different doctors until I get one who'll find what the problem is. We have some naturopathic specialists in our town that actually specialize in menstrual problems, but our insurance doesn't cover that. Of course.

And I totally understand about being angry. I was a wreck last summer. Just po'd all the time. Along with double the periods, I had double the PMS. Fun for the entire family!!

Oh, I stopped having the 2 periods a month and now they just show up randomly-sometimes every 6 weeks, sometimes every 3. I'm on NO schedule.

I pretty much was either bleeding or spotting for over two years, every day. When TOM came, it was terrible. I was on the pill, but it did nothing.

I got the Mirena IUD last august. I spotted fairly lightly for three months, and nothing...I mean nothing...since then.

I feel sooo much better and have way more energy. because i am no longer anemic.

It is worth a try if you are not sensitive to hormones.

I have to say this about the TMI. As a fellow PCOSer I have been seen, poked, probed, diagnosed, missdiagnosed, cut, medicated, unmedicated, scanned, transfused, laughed at (yup that happened too) and talked down to. That this type of conversation is a part of my daily life.

My sister-in-law also has PCOS and had the IUD done. She had the same problem with the bleeding that the rest of you did. But after about 2 months everything settled down for her and she loves it.

I had an endometrial ablation about a year ago, and was up and running the next day. My procedure required general anesthesia, too, so that would be consideration for you. :sunny:
