Mad at the School right now.

I think my reaction would be to make sure to tell my DD to let someone know that she isn't feeling well and that she wants to go home the next time.

Again, I don't know if she did or didn't tell anyone. I'm going to ask her today when she's up and about.

I know from past experience with my DS, that the kid can tell them until they're blue in the face, but they won't call the parents. And last year, my niece threw up all over herself one day and they let her sit in a stinking shirt all day without calling her mother.

Anything to keep those attendance levels up.

Then that is the issue I would take up with the school. That is unacceptable. However, if he didn't tell anyone, I owuld be stressing that with her.

this is why i dont post stuff like this. you get the gamut of advice, even though you didnt ask for any. i hope your daughter feels better, and i am sorry for your experience. nothing else needs to be said. the rest of who said what really doesnt matter. good luck.

I think parents can more easily tell when their own children are sick than teachers. Just because it's obvious to *you*, doesn't mean it's obvious to everyone. I think every mother can tell you that.

Your daughter should have told someone she was sick. I don't think the school really did a whole lot wrong here. Most students are pretty upfront about not feeling well-- I've never known one to actually want to suffer through a school day without telling a teacher about it.

The teachers at school notice nothing.

I will NEVER let one of my kids on a field trip without going.

Once, my son wet his pants in the boys room at kindergarten and was gone for two hours before a janitor found him. The teacher never noticed he was gone.

On his first day of kindergarten, he did not come in during recess because he fell asleep on the playground (afternoon kindergarten, it was his normal naptime). No one noticed he was gone.

I was on a field trip once and they lost two of the little boys, and no one had seen them for over an hour.

Very scary how unobservant they are.

I drive a bus and did a field trip one time and after everyone got off, I went around alone to see everything, when I got back to my bus, there was someone sitting in it. It was a girl with down syndrome, the teacher or chaparone brought her back to the bus and left her there alone so they could go around to see everything. I waited on the bus with her. I reported it but wonder if anything was ever done about it.

aren't after school programs generally for kids whose parents aren't available? is this a tutoring program, or is it recreational? just wondering. around here those programs are usually glorified baby sitting.

op, are you a teacher. you mention what you would do with your students. do you teach in the district where your daughter goes?

I love it when someone takes 2 incidents and manages to label everyone in the profession as unobservant. Yes there are bad teachers and there are good teachers. The actions of a few do not make the entire group bad. If that was true, we would all be branded bad parents.

To the OP, I hope that your daughter is feeling better.

i could see the school not seeing it. but the after-care program
should have called you or a back up number.
i hope she feels better today :grouphug:

It's a tutoring program. They do a little bit of enrichment (computers and recreation for maybe a half hour), but it's pretty much all tutoring.

I'm not a teacher yet, and when I do I hope to be in the same district as the kids, even just as a sub. :teeth: But at 39 years old, I've been in the classroom enough times over the years to know how I'll react in any given circumstances.

I finally asked her, and she said she told them she wasn't feeling well as soon as the program started, and they told her to just go sit in the cafeteria. She's smiling about it today because she says she "drooled on the seat" while she was sleeping. How cool.

Oh yeah, I would be upset as well.
It sounds like they knew she was not feeling well from what you posted. What they did is unacceptable in my opinion. I would call and talk with them and make sure they know you are not satisfied with what happened and to call you the next time she is sick. Sounds like a process needs to be written for these people! If you are not the advocate for your child, then who is?
Good luck and I hope she is feeling better! :goodvibes

Ohhhh Marseeya,

I am so sorry!
Makes you wonder just who is looking after our children.

:sad2:

My son, who is somewhat special needs, is not one to speak up.... If this ever happens to him, I will be livid.

Last year he came down with the absolute WORST case of strep that I have ever seen, after I personally witnessed a classmate, visibly physically ill with strep, crying that she did not feel good, etc.. be left in school that way for several days, in class, sitting right next to DS in the cafeteria, in gym etc... I felt so sorry for this little girl!!! I even mentioned to the teacher after sitting next to her and DS in lunch, that maybe she should go to the nurses office. DS told me when he got home that she was right back in class. :sad2:
In the school I work at we sometimes have sick kids in the classroom until the end of the day. What happens is they go to the nurse ( or we call the parents) and the parent will either tell us they have no way to come or sometimes they just don't come. On occasion we have had to threated to call DCF and report them for child neglect to get a parent to come. It is not always the school's fault.
If after school care knew the child was sick they should have called.
