Macy's vent - UPDATE post #38

Well, I didn't stay home from work, got dad to come over for a few hours, but when I got home, no furniture and no card saying they tried to deliver and no one was home. I guess I'm headed over to Macy's to let them know I don't want their furniture as I am past disgusted!

Kathi, make sure you talk to both the department manager and the on duty store manager. IMO Macy's has gotten very lax in customer service in the last 10 years or so. They bought off most of the competition and where Macy's replaced The Hecht Company and RObinsons-May, the stores I used to love to go to I avoid at all costs. The people I have encountered in them act like they are doing me a favor to help me, it was never like that before.

Good luck and do report back.

And Mrs Smith, they aren't losing money on you. They inflate the delivery prices so even if 1/2 the people get the rebate, the costs are covered. No one is in business to lose money.

I would never pay $150 to have an item delivered.. I don't mind a reasonable delivery fee, but $150 is not reasonable in my book.. No way, no how..

Well, you gave them two more days than I would have! I hope you get your refund with little begging. lol

Our daughter bought a sectional sofa from Furniture Deals & Steals. Took a month to get arrive but that was OK. They charge for delivery & it's a different company. Get this--there's 3 leavels of "delivery"--to your house; to bring to house & bring inside; to your house/bring inside & then set up which would include unwrapping & removal of wrapping. Geeze... However, since we couldn't in any way bring the sectional home ourselves, we chose for them to bring it to the house & inside for $65. They came when they said they would & let us know when they were on the way. Works for us!!

I can't add anything to the good advice. Just want to relay a story from several years ago. We were getting a new mattress & box spring. Delivery was set up for a Friday. We removed the old mattress, box spring & frame & put it out. Queen size, not an easy move down 2 flights of stairs. Friday morning comes & goes, afternoon, nothing, no calls. We call, they'll be there this evening. Well along around 11:00 pm we figure no one is showing up. We weren't about to haul in the old one, don't even remember if it was still there or if we gave it away. Luckily we happen to have a full size bed in the spare room. Cozy.

Yeah, but in the morning what did you do to the mattress-store? Enquiring minds want to know....

agnes!

It must have been a Friday, because after calling the next day, they delivered it. The least they could have done was to call us & let us know they wouldn't be here. I know things can get busy & held up but it's not like they're doing major repairs, they're just delivering furniture. The moral is, don't throw out the old bed till you get the new one. Unless you have a comfy sofa or 2!;)

Just a little update. I went into the store and did complain that I still didn't have my furniture after waiting 3 days for it to be delivered. The salesperson was very sympathetic and didn't really try to make excuses, but didn't have the "authority" to do anything for me. Of course the manager was not available. Why is it that they are never available when you have a problem?

At any rate, I asked when the manager would be available and went back again yesterday to plead my case. I did get to speak to him and told him that I was very disappointed in the service I was recieving. I explained the whole story to him, including how I originally had been willing to pick the furniture up wherever, but was told that wasn't an option. I also took about 5 years worth of Macy's charge statements with me to show that I was a "loyal" customer and how this episode really tainted my perception of the company.

Long story short, the furntiture is now supposed to be delivered on November 4th (I'm not holding my breath, but I do have that day off from work, so I'm not missing a day). The delivery charge has been waived, they deducted $200 for my "trouble" and gave me a gift card for $125 to spend at a later date. I'm pretty happy with the resolution, as long as the furniture does come on Tuesday.

:thumbsup2

Why can't they be upfront? If something is going to take time, just tell me.
Perhaps their vendors are talking smack to them and it filters down.:confused3

Sounds like once you were able to hunt down the manager, he handled it well...and you have Macy's $$ to start Christmas shopping....

Hope it gets delivered this time!

You know, I didn't even ask what the problem was. I really didn't care as I was more focused on getting that stinking delivery charge removed. If it doesn't come on Tuesday, I'll be a raving lunatic. Maybe, if they keep on delaying delivery, I can get the thing for free. :rotfl:

Aw, they bought your love! Glad it all worked out and congrats on the money saved!

I hope you finally get your furniture - let us know. Sounds like a good compromise to me.

I know we've been able to pick up some pieces of furniture at the Macy's warehouse (a few cities away) but still cheaper to get it ourselves, than their delivery fee. I wonder why they didn't offer that as an option.

Well, the set finally came yesterday!! I had called and changed the delivery date because I figured it would be better to have the floors refininshed while the room was empty. So Dad came over and the delivery was made ON TIME!! :woohoo: He said the delivery men even recognized that the floors were just refinished and brought in padding to make sure they didn't scratch them with their equipment. So that part was great.

However, 3 of the chairs need to go back because they are scratched. Since they're still in the plastic wrapping, I'm pretty sure it didn't happen during delivery. I called Macy's and supposedly there isn't going to be any problem replacing them. We just need to find a day that works for me, probably this Saturday.

At any rate, the table looks great with the newly refinished floor, so I'm anxious to get the new chairs in here.

Glad too hear it worked out for you; I was really dissapointed for you-Macy's has been one of my fave stores for forever!
