Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade

It looks like my daughter may get to participate in this year's Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. We'd like to go and watch her, but I know next to nothing about NYC. Where are good places to stay? How early do you have to be there to get a spot for the parade? Are there indoor packages available from restaurants, hotels, etc.? I've googled and found some things, but hard to tell what is legit and what is not. Anyone have any experiences with it that would like to share with me?

Until my cancer diagnosis, I worked the parade. 5 am you need to find your spot, depending on weather they get MILLIONS there.

Place to stay-I recommend the New Yorker, or anywhere on the route. Don't forget about Bed and Breakfasts in NYC.

Get there about a day before and go scope out your spot on the route, it changed last year due to Broadway becoming more pedestrian.

I'll be watching on TV this year (still can't do the two mile route, but there is next year!) and I hope she has a blast. I loved doing it.
