Just saw on the news, yesterday Macy's took the balloons out to Giants Stadium for a teat run.

there will be 3 new balloons this year. they're updating Picachu and Snoopy, and they're having a special balloon to celebrate the parade's 80th anniversary.

can't wait!

I think the Macy's parade is the biggest snoozefest. Perhaps seeing it in person would make it more exciting.

Hey now....I love the Macy's!!!:cool1: My dh took me to NYC to see it a couple of years ago.

As a sidenote.....I heard on the radio that the gal who was hit by a lightpost from a ballon knocking it over (she lived), was the apartment that the pitcher for the Yankees plane hit.

What are the odds of THAT?

I have fond memories of seeing the Macy's parade every year while growing up in NY. We used to go to the St. Patrick's Day parade too. Once my parents stopped taking me, they watched it on tv but it was not the same at all. I don't think parades are any fun on tv.

Now, the lighting of the tree in Rockerfeller Center is still something I do watch on tv! I love that, and it makes me especially homesick.

Someday when DH and I are emptynesters, I want to go to the parade. Of course the youngest is 12 so I have a few years.

I would also LOVE to go to the Tournament of Roses someday!!!

I have watched the Macy's Thanksgiving parade since I was a little girl. I remember watching it as my Grandmother would get Thanksgiving dinner together. It has always a fond memory and I look forward to watching it every year!

Snoozefest :confused3

Not at all. Having never seen it in person, I do not see where you can say SNOOZEFEST. :confused3

The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is FABULOUS. It is a NYC tradition. To be at the parade is an absolute THRILL. :teeth:

Another huge thrill is Thanksgiving Eve where you can attend "BALLOON INFLATION"! You and your family can go to the NYC's Museum of Natural History between 77th & 81st streets to "Balloon Headquarters" and watch all the balloon handlers actually blow up these balloons. You can just walk around the area and watch OR you can select a Tour Guide to accompany your family/group and he/sher will explain everything to you from history to classic balloons. :thumbsup2

Try it some year...you will certainly agree it is NOT a snoozefest in the least.

Same here...its tradition now. :goodvibes

I haven't been to the parade in a while.
But on my way home from work, I pass by the warehouse where they build the floats. So sometimes I can get a sneak peek at them.

Oh-I love to watch it while I put the finishing touches on dinner/decor! The kids only watch it when I yell that their favorite character is flying by. :thumbsup2

I love Thanksgiving. Especially, the parade. Like the others posted, while we all cook and get ready for our "feast", the parade is on. This year especially, our kitchen re-do is all done, so I'll be cooking Thanksgiving dinner in a brand new kitchen.

We head down, with friends and family who inevitibly visit us for the parade, to the Museum of Natural History the night before T-day to check out Balloon Headquarters every year. It's a real crowd pleaser!

We have also watched the parade in person for years and to be honest, I now prefer to watch it on TV. IMO, the entertainment value is so much better with the televised song and dance routines. Out on the street, once SpongeBob floats by, we pack it in to tend top the turkey already cooking in the oven.

VioltePrincess You going????? Anyone else going?????

I'll be there!!!!! We try to go every other year (off years we snuggle in front of a fire and watch it from beginning to end without moving).

We are staying at my Aunt and Uncle's apartment on the upper west side and taking my 2 year old cousin with us (her parent's dislike parades and Disney  :rotfl2: ).

I don't care if I have to be on the curb at 6am for a spot, my rear will be there with a giant hot chocolate. I'm psyched :Pinkbounc

We typically watch it from one on the streets in the 60's...you don't have to be there at the crack of dawn, unless you must sit front row. Our apartment's about 15 blocks north of the beginning of parade route on the UWS.

Even though I've never been to NYC, it's a tradition for me, too. I always watch both it and the local St. Louis parade Thanksgiving morning while making the pumpkin pies. :teeth:

Thanksgiving wouldn't be Thanksgiving without the Macy's Parade. I love starting my day with the parade. And Santa at the end brings a tear to my eye every year.

Understandable, but we are walking with a 2 year old from the high 80's though, so walking will be slower. And we want her to be able to see because she isn't the type of child who would want to be held the entire time either. We probably wont get there at 6am probably a little later, I just know it's going to be early. Usually we wouldn't get there so early because my family consists of 4 adults now and we can stand in the crowd and still see but this year it's a little different.

I have never been to the parade, I always watch on television.

I alsodon't go to times square on New Year's Eve.

too crazy for me, you know?

Add me to the snoozefest list-not that the parade is a snoozefest, but the way it is televised. I like to see the balloons, bands, and the like. Everytime I glance some cast of a Broadway show is 80% naked in 20 degree air dancing around. There is much more to the parade than that, show it to us.
