macro lenses

this was one of the first i took with my $100 phoenix macro...maybe could be sharper but for the price, not that bad imo considering i also was tearing my hair out using my panning head tripod ( now see the "necessity" of a ball head for macro unless you have a really steady hand to adjust or don't mind going nuts missing the entire object every other time you adjust the tripod  I tried 1/2 a dozen shots then had had enough for the day :lmao: )

Also, I just have a Sony H5 P&S & I don't think I can get a shot that close, do you zoom in on the picture after taking it or is it that close when you take it?

I...
you can do either...the only problem with cropping a larger picture is , 1) you might not get as many details as a macro or close up and 2) which is kind of related any way so maybe 1 1/2, it depends on how many mp your camera has, if you can crop that close with out it looking fuzzy. try getting as close as you can with your optical zoom or if you have a setting for close ups( i know canon's looks like a flower, don't know what sony would look like, that might blur the background nicely also) and then play around with a post picture crop and see what happens...for real macros ( like the rose above which i think is 1:1)it will be blurry unless you use a tripod but for close ups which are more like 1:4( like my "macro setting on my 28-125 lens or probably a close up setting) you should be ok without one, just be extra careful to hold it steady and use the fastest shutter you can if you can adjust it( biggest number)

I don't have any seasonal fruit, but how about some seasonal candy!! We're trying to potty train our youngest son, almost 3 - and he's currently "pooping for pumpkins"!! OK - that's probably more than you needed to know!!! :rotfl:

LMarge: TMI, yes, but too funny all the same. I guess you gotta go with what works. :rotfl: And I really like the second photo.

I thought I had posted this little guy yesterday, but he didn't show up - so here he is again! I love his eyes - they look so metallic in the light!

No extreme close up - but close enough... bananas on my Banana tree!!! The first bunch ever! This tree was a baby from my neighbors tree and I planted it about 2 years ago! Don't know if they will ripen or taste good, but GOSH - I have bananas growing in my yard...... (and oranges) how cools is that! (Northerner transplanted to FL still gets excited about this stuff!)

That is pretty darn cool. Is that another bunch hanging further down?

Great avatar, BTW.

There are actually two bunches hanging on the "stem". I have not figured out what that big pod thing is! I have a degree in FORESTRY - but they didn't teach us about BANANA trees up in the ADIRONACKS! I guess I should go "GOOGLE" it!

Did you say Adirondacks? We summer there every year!!! My dh's family has a cabin/camp (ie - small house!) in Eagle Bay. Very nice area - did you grow up there as well? And hey - those banana's are really cool!!! Our leaves are all falling up here in Cinci, so that looks so nice to me!!!! :sunny:

Here's a few from yesterday, things a changing fast now with the cool weather.

I'm just a beginner so please excuse my lack of knowledge....

How do you take a photo with the background blurred like this? I have the Sony H5

I have a Sony H5 as well. If you put it on macro (press the little flower icon on the right of the circle) and zoom in on something (say, a flower or berries or whatnot) the background will blur automatically because the camera is focusing on the object rather than what is behind it.
