macro lenses

i used to get those in my garden...they always chose to make their webs on the tomatoes and would run out when i tried to pick them which meant blood curdling screams everytime i picked tomatoes :teeth: at least they were colorful :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
i just got a macro lens today but it was pouring so maybe tomorrow i can get some macro shots

OMG - you would have heard me scream from here to Miami if I had seen it in my yard! At least the fact that it was at Disney made it a little more tolerable to this arachnidphobic (is that a word?????) I will never weed my landscaping again without gloves now that I know they LIVE HERE!:scared1: :faint:

Tara kept telling me not to get too close when I was taking the picture - I think she thought it was going to JUMP out at me! Believe me I did not get too close - thank goodness for the ZOOM!

Martha:

Those kind of spiders used to build webs from the eaves of my granddad's house to the rose bushes in the garden underneath. I swear to God they are the reason I'm scared of spiders. When you're a kid, they look huge, and seeing one of those suspended in midair right in front of the window - :shudder:

It's a Black & Yellow Argiope. They websites I have seen say the body length is about 3/4 - 1 1/8" - so I guess with the legs, my guesstimate might not be too far off. The little spider in the background is probably the male... they are much smaller, and on one site it mentioned that he builds the zig zag part of the web. They are not poisonous (isn't being SCARY enough!!!) They say the zig zag might be to keep birds, etc from flying through it or to attract bugs... both sound good to me!

So there's your lesson in arachnids this evening.
Yesterday Sand cranes.... today spiders!
Thanks for the info on the spiders. I also am not a fan, but was a cool picture. I thought the smaller one was probably a male, and they're probably preparing to make lots of itty bitty babies...(shudder)

I thought this was a really good one ~ it is a baby toad sitting on my 11yr old sons finger! It was taken with my cheap Panasonic Lumix LZ2 that I've learned to work with, lol.

can I ask what camera you use?

Those shots were taken with a Canon 10D. I still use it for some shots, but I usually use a Canon 1DM2 now.

is the top photo dew on a spider web or something????

Yes, exactly.

A lot of hardcore macro nature photographers carry a misting bottle to add droplets of water to their subjects. I've seen some really amazing photos which most of the subject was revealed as a reflection inside of a water droplet. I'm neither dedicated nor talented enought for that sort of thing. I just happened to see this web when we were starting out on a hike, so I popped on my closeup filter, guessed at a reasonable aperture, took the shot handheld, and moved on.

Whoa! That has to be the coolest photo posted yet. Talk about getting up close and personal! Well done, We-Luv-Disney.

I took this one this morning at one of the lakes in town.

WeLuvDisney, that photo is amazing, please share what camera you used for that. So cool!

I just found this when I went outside. It's only about 2 inches tall.
