Instead of watching TV, I took a few of some leaves with the 105mm macro and the reversed 50mm coupled together.

Old Sycamore leaf. Looks like leather to me. The texture is interesting.

New leaf from a Snowball plant. The veins and small hairs are really pronounced.

When you say 1:2, I assume that you are talking about the ratio of the size of the real life object (1) to the size of the image on your sensor (2). In otherwords, the object on the sensor is 1/2 the size of the real life object. If it was 1:4, it would be a real life object that is 1/4 it's size on the sensor.

Using a teleconverter will not affect the size of the real life object. It will magnify the image on the sensor by 1.4x. So 1:1 would be 1:1.4, 1:2 would be 1:2.8, and 1:4 would be 1:5.6.

There is one problem with this. The teleconverter will probably change (for the worse) your closest possible focusing distance. That means that you'll have to move your camera back and reduce your magnification. So the end result is that you might not get your full 1.4x magnification increase. Then again, maybe it won't affect the closest possible focusing distance.

Oops, I got my math backward.

You should divide by 1.4, not multiply by it. So 1:1 would be 1:0.7, 1:2 should be 1:1.4, and 1:4 should be 1:2.9.

according to kenko it does not affect the focusing distance. thanks for the math, don't know what i was doing wrong but the last figures make more sense.

Anyone have this lens and can recommend it? Got my XTi and I'd like a few reasonable options for Telphoto lens that will cover a variety of subjects. Sort of looking for an all in 1 lens. Love wildlife Photography, Have kids, so Like good shots of them also.

Recommendations? Pro's or Cons?

Here's one from last summer, a eastern pondhawk enjoying a beatle.

These little guys eat fast, he ate half of the beatle while I switched from my 300mm lens to my 100mm macro lens.

Photo Contest Rules

Macro Photography is basically taking close up pictures of small things. Although I know that this is a very loose definition, it will work for this contest. I would rather not get into a large discussion about the true definition of Macro Photography. If it's a close up picture of something small it will suffice.

Photos should be no larger than 800x600.

Pictures should be as original as possible with minimal editing. This is a photography contest, not a photo editing contest.


Entries for this contest must be received no later than 10pm EST on July 15th.
