Love the pic Gdad! Almost bought that figurine... and now I want it more :goodvibes

Thank you Sha- And BTW- I did not find your question rude- I just forgot to answer it (so I may be guilty of being rude myself :rolleyes1 ) I think that little square is just packing foam maybe? That would be my guess and it will need to stay there as we all know no photoshopping is allowed in the weekly photo contest. ;)

From a trip I took in June 2004 after retiring from teaching.
This was a graduation Mickey with a great saying on it !
" OUT THE DOOR IN 2004"

Its framed in my room :)

It's going to be so hard to vote this week. These pictures are GORGEOUS!

Gorgeous pictures everyone!
Is it about time to be voting on these pictures, and also the final voting for the previous weeks contest? And starting *this* weeks contest submissions?
Is there any way I can be of assistance?

DH is asking what macro lens would be good with a D40x. Cost is not a factor, it is for his work. Do you all prefer nikkor or others? Thanks in advance for all your good advice! :)

P.S. They will be taking pictures of toys.

If cost is not a factor...

Nikkor 105mm f/2.8G ED-IF AF-S VR. One of the Nikon guys here on the board has one, I think its Gdad. Awesome lens. Goes for around $850.

Thats also about the only Macro lens that will auto focus with the D40. The 60mm f/2.8 is another awesome lens, but it is AF and will not auto focus on the D40.

There are 2 Sigma macro lenses that will auto focus on the D40
150mm 2.8 EX DG IF HSM APO Macro ($600)
180mm 3.5 EX DG IF HSM APO Macro ($660)

There a many other great macro lenses out there, Tamron 90mm f/2.8, Sigma 105mm f/2.8, Nikkor 60mm f2.8, but like I mentioned they wont auto focus. Not really a big deal when doing actual Macro work (as much of it is done in manual focus because you are so close), but if you want to use the lens for other things then you run into auto focus issues.

But you said price wasn't a factor. If focal length isn't a factor either, then the Nikkor 105mm f/2.8 is the way to go.

Nikon has Twenty-Five Micro (what they call macro), three that are very popular!! The 105mm VR would be my choice if I didn't already have the older non VR version. The newer version is faster focusing (quiet too) and better AF.

They also have a 60mm that I've heard great things about. Just depends on your budget and what you're going to photograph. What Kyle mentions about the AF is the main problem you'll have to work around, but the 105mm VR fits that bill
