Macro Lens question.

I would like a Macro Lens for my Nikon D90, any recommendations?

Before you buy pay attention to what you want to shoot. If it is bugs you are going to have to be really close to get the shot. You may want to look at a 60mm or a 105mm.

If money is no object, Nikon makes a killer 200mm macro that is great for getting close without being close!

I have the Nikon 105mm and it's awesome. But instead of purchasing a lens, you can always get a filter to screw onto the top of your current glass. I did that for years rather than investing in, yet another, lens.

Just another option I use once in a blue moon... a reverse ring for your current lens. You need to be up close and personal but it's fun to play with. I don't have any real need for a macro lens, other than for when I'm bored and want to play, so a few hundred $$$ was too much for me to drop. I spent $10 for a 72mm ring. Not the easiest option, especially since you need to do everything manually, but it's just for my own amusement

Lil spider that made me scream like a girl when it climbed onto my lens when I forgot to pay attention....

Random bug about 1/8 of an inch big....

Burning match....

1/2 of my paycheck.......

I know you probably have no intention of going this route, it can really be a pain to get used to. I just figured I'd throw it out there for the guy like me who only wants to play around without dropping big cash.

Look at the lens you want to use for the filter size. Hop up on Ebay and look for "reverse ring adapter" + the size in millimeters + the make of your camera. Mine was a 72mm. it screws onto the front of your lens and mounts into your camera. Basically, you put your lens on backwards. It's definitely different but since I only dabble for fun once in a while, it works for me. I got the metal version.
