The 105mm is a wonderful macro lens for Nikon, and also does very well for portraits. There's also an older 60mm Macro that has a lot of fans.

There's the Nikon 40mm, 60mm, and 105mm... and all will autofocus on your D3000. I haven't done macro so I don't know if macro shooters prefer manual anyway. I guess it depends on what you're shooting.
