Maclaren Triumph...convince me

I'm tempted to get a Volo because they are cheaper. I need convincing that I should be getting this stroller for my 4 yo rather than having her use a cheap umbrella stroller or a WDW rental.

I need to take this plunge soon. But I need convincing.

Thanks

Shel

I chose the Volo over the Triumph for my almost 4 yr old to use. I didn't like the canopy on the Triumph and the seat came up higher on the Volo to where his head wasn't up in the canopy area. If I had needed the recline, I would of gone with the Quest or even the Techno over the Triumph personally.

I LOVE my Volo! Super light and love the carry strap. It steers awesome and is a pleasure to push. I find the mesh seat to be just fine and easy to wipe off if they eat ice cream in it. You can always purchase the seat pad and raincover separatly which I did for our Disney trip, but honestly I don't think it's necessary. I did buy the organizer though and I really am glad. I use it for a cup holder and the mesh bag more than makes up for the rather small basket.

You will love pushing this stroller soooooo much more than a regular cheap umbrella stroller! I also purchased a smaller cheaper Graco umbrella stroller and while a nice little stroller, no one wanted to push it after we got the Volo so I returned the Graco. Was going to get another Volo but got a Peg P3 Pliko instead for my youngest to use.

Is the Volo seat as wide as the Triumph seat? We tried out a Triumph at Target and I was really pleased with how much shoulder room it gave our dd. It also had ample leg room. If the dimensions are the same as far as the seating is concerned, then I may have to consider the Volo.

Thanks

Shel

Okay, finalizing here. Looks like the Quest is out because it doesn't have the shoulder strap.

So I'm still between the Volo and the Triumph. I want the hood on it, so that means that I could get a 2005 Volo for $99, or a 2004 Triumph for $119. Basically $20 more for recline. $20 less, no recline, cuter stroller (love that pink!)

Any advice on this tired topic would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Shel

The Quest has a nicer latching recline system where the Triumph has a strap or draw-string type of recline and I believe the fabric is a little plusher on the Quest. I haven't seen the Quest in person but I have asked others the same question about the differences. Albeebaby does have great prices on the 04 Quest now.

I did not care for the Triumph that I checked out at Babies R Us.The seat didn't come up high enough for my liking and the canopy was rounded. I prefered the Volo's more squarish canopy. I think the seat widths are the same. Maclaren's website had them listed I believe. The volo may actually seem roomier though because it's not padded. Also, the Volo is the lightest if weight is a consideration. HTH!

I loved the cute colors on the Volo too! I got the Magenta and black one even though my son will be riding in it mainly at Disney, but my DD is the youngest so she will be getting the most use out of it. Beside DS didn't complain,LOL.

I tried them all out at Babies R Us, the Volo, Quest and Triumph.

I ended up liking the Quest the best for my older child. The weight was 55lb maximum and it seemed to fit a taller child better then the others, it was deeper/longer.

It also seemed to be easier to move with a heavier child in it.

I like the padding, the basket, the canopy and the handles.

So after trying them all in the store, I bought the Quest at www.albeebaby.com for $129 total.

Good luck deciding.

Oooh, this is tough. The strap is a necessity per dh's request. So the Quest is out. But steering is important too. DH loved the steering on the Triumph (any time we have used a stroller with dd in the last year, maybe twice, it has been a Kolcraft umbrella.)

I need to hit Babies R Us to try them out. Last time I was there they didn't have a Volo.

This one is for dd and and want her to be comfy, but I know she'll also get up and walk a bit too. I'm leaning towards a Volo, but I'll have to try it out with her in it.

Thanks for the tips! I get such a rush when stroller shopping! I'm not a shoe girl, but I go nuts shopping for diaper bags and strollers!!!!

Nah, it's not. I got a strap for my Quest through www.combistrollers.com. It's meant for the Savvy but fits any of the Maclaren umbrellas perfectly! Here's the exact link:

I personally do not like the shallow seat of the Triumph, and would not want to try to hunch over and push a cheapie umbrella with a heavier child in it.

Is the Triumph more shallow than the Volo? Or are they about the same? I'm afraid I'll never decide. ;)

I have the Triumph and I love it. It was bought especially for a Disney trip with my then 10 month old son and it worked wonderfully. The carrying strap and light weight (12 lbs I think) alone were wonderful. I was initially going to get the Volvo for the cheaper price but realized you had to purchase a seperate accesory pack to get the sunshade and rain cover, so that seemed like a waste. Plus, I thought the Volvo doesn't recline? Recline is a nice feature if your baby will take a nap in the stroller. The recline on the Triumph is an adjustable strap rather than latch system. The steering is excellent, after I got this I just stopped using my bulky old Graco all together.

I'm expecting baby #2 and am looking into Maclaren twin strollers because I like my Triumph so much.

Gl I'm sure you'll be pleased no matter what you decide.

I know you want the carrying strap but I would get the Quest and purchase either a travel bag which has a carrying strap - we bought one for the protection when the stroller is gate checked not for the strap but that will be a fringe benefit - or the carry strap someone else posted a link to. I thought the Triumph had a shallow seat and the Quest's is definitely deeper. I also liked the volo - especially all the cute colors. But I really wanted the recline feature....and since I haven't used it I don't know first hand but I thought the fabric on the volo looked really uncomfortable - like the kiddos would get "waffle legs" and it might be hotter on their little legs. But again...I don't KNOW that....just looking at it that was one of my concerns.

::yes:: I agree with all your concerns and that is why after trying the Volo, Triumph, and Quest, I got the Quest. The issues were fitting an older child, cusioning comfort and reclining.

I think a stroller is a little bit like a purse - everyone like's something different :) I do LOVE my Quest and wish that I had just bought it for our December 2004 trip like I had wanted instead of putting off spending that much for a stroller and "making do" with her "perfectly good" big travel stroller. I hated it on the the buses and we ended up driving the rental car everywhere which we prefer not to do. Good luck deciding - I agonized over spending that much on a lightweight stroller but am so glad I did.

LOL, I should post a poll and just go by those results because I just can't make a decision, lol!

Have you gone to BRU and tried all three? There is no one "right" answer, and you may find the right answer for you and your DC by checking them out in person.

My BRU doesn't have the Volo, but we are going there later today to check out the Quest.

:)

If you're luck BRU has gotten a Volo in since your last visit. Ours didn't carry it until just recently I was in and noticed they had one. They didn't have it when I was shopping for one - I had to go to another store to see it.

Are you going to use this stroller for your 4 year old only? Are there any plans for more children? Sorry to be so nosy but I would definitely think about investment if you plan on using it on a second child. ;)

I bought the Triumph a couple of months ago for my 2 1/2 year old and I do love it. I knew NOTHING of these strollers before this board :rotfl: but I am very glad I bought it, BUT...............................

If I had a 4 year old and was not planning on having more children I would definitely not invest $100+ on the Maclaren. I would rent a stroller at Disney because hauling the Triumph around along with everything else can get to be a pain. If you rent then you have a stroller only when you WANT a stroller and not all the time. The strollers are so light weight (which is awesome) that you can't hang anything off the back so if we return to Disney with a 4 year old in a couple of years we might rent a stroller for all day park days because you can put so much in the double renter and I dont' have to haul it from home! :goodvibes

I am certain I have confused you more but I wanted to give you a different perspective. Don't sweat this decision. If you buy the stroller you won't regret it because it's great but I wouldn't buy it just for this trip or just for one child at this late age. I need a greater return for my investment

We have a younger ds, and there may be more kiddos in the future. One thought we had though is that if we buy a stroller for about $125 or less (and we can get any of the Maclarens at that price right now) and we decide afte the trip that we don't need it, we can always Ebay it for at least half price. That way we get about $65 back on it. That makes the stroller the same cost as the rental, and dd has something to ride in at the resorts, airport, etc.

But I'm really, really waffling on this. I'm going to do a poll and hit BabiesRus after nap time today. Hopefully I'll have a decision by tonight!
