If I remember correctly you always take a trip in October. This will be my first Oct. trip in years and my first with an AP. Can you tell me what kind of rates to expect at RPR? I'll be going sometime the later part of the month and will not be attending HHN. Is this a bad time to go with the kiddos?

i have gone in october the last 10 years for hhn.

the AAA rates are cheaper by $20 at this point over the APH rates.
(right now the rates for rph are $197 weeknights)

friday and saturday rates are higher than the other days for the hotel stays.

if the hotels are not filling up in the summer, rates will drop.
usually the APH rate drops first.

book your room with the APH rate and modify your rate when it drops.

it you stick to weekdays, you should be fine.

if you include a weekend, the parks will close early studios at 5 and ioa at 6 on hhn event nights.

the last few years the aph rate at rph was lower at the end of the month.

i'll be at rph again this october.
nice place.

the studio park should not be an issue for your children.
UO covers up much of the hhn displays for the daytime visitors.

Thanks, Mac, I knew you were the one to ask!! :flower3:

I love the idea of October since the kids love to swim at the RPR pool and it will still be warm, but it will be a weekend (Oct. 20-24 or Oct. 29-Nov. 2). I'm not crazy about those hours, and I'm also worried about getting stuck with a higher rate becaues of HHN which I won't take part in. We used to make a FL trip in Sept., but the kids will be in new schools this year and don't have any time off until Oct. Hmm...

oct 29 to nov 2 would be a good time to go.

halloween night has not been too packed in the last few years.
that would fall on a sunday this year.

the first week of nov usually has low crowds in the park.

some years i found that the aph rates for the onsite hotels were cheaper at the end of october than the time period that i go.

with parry hotter starting up, i am more concerned with that new island changing the crowd pattern we are used to.

if you book and the rates go down, call and modify your rate to the new reduced rate.

your rate does not change unless you call and have it modified.

i always book 11 months out and modify my rate when they drop

You say you book 11 months out? Any idea why they have not released February 2011 rates yet? This is for HRH.

you are booking at rack rates and modify to the discount rate when they are available.
you can book far out, but the discounts might now be available at that time.

my point is i book 11 months out, once i booked 13 months out, to guarantee my room choice.

my specific dates, choice of rooms and hotel is my priority when i first book.
i do HHN yearly and completely and totally addicted to it so i have to get my room situation done early.

rest of the year, i book maybe 4 months out.

Mac, when you book that far in advance, do you use the Universal website or do you call the Universal hotel reservation number?

i call UO hotel reservation when i book.

i look at the rates that are up on the UO website but i never ever book online.
i always book by calling.

that way, if there is a promo out, the TM will tell me about it.

when you call, they will tell you the best way to book to make it financially in line with what you will pay.
if you doubt anything you are told and want to question it, all you need do is tell the TM on the line to transfer you to a supervisor.

i'm also able to give my loews platinum number to the TM so i can book the king suite in advance for the cost of the standard room.

HRH website tells me the dates are not available. Should I call to find out? Feb 18-20 2011
