M. Space - It was all my fault!

The tamer version doesn't even spin so you feel NO G-force. It is more like a simulator. I disagree that the tamer version will not help things at all. Before, people would "chance" it and ride the regular version because they had no other option and did not want to miss out totally. Now they have an option. I think many people would try the tamer version first before deciding to ride the original version.

To the OP - you state that you have every ailment/condition that the ride warns you about - high blood presure, heart ailment, etc, and you went on? :confused3

You are absolutely correct. As i said, it was all my fault. I knew better :confused3 But my point was that most of those ailments are listed in the warnings of other extreme rides and I have no problem with them (Space Mountain, Hulk, Dueling Dragons, etc.) It was the tight space that did me in. So, if other people get on other rides and have those ailments, they might believe that this one is ok as well. But it's the tight space that was a problem for me, being a claustrophobic. I admit, it was all my fault.

I was there in late May, and I believe the tamer version of M:S had just opened. My DH can't ride anything that might cause motion sickness and my two teenage kids were apprehensive (they do ride all the coasters), so I decided to be the guinea pig and try it out first. I almost did the orange side, but decided to try the green (tamer) side first. I had no problems whatsoever, even though I don't particularly like closed-in spaces. Even though I was so tempted to try the original version, I thought why take the chance that it might make me sick and possibly ruin me for the rest of the day. Some people have said that they weren't themselves for a few days! It just wasn't worth the risk for me. It seems like you really can't predict whether you'll be affected or not. So my kids went on the tame version with me again and were fine with it. At least we didn't miss out totally on M:S.

I haven't been since the tamer version opened. Exactly how do they let you know of the option and what factors do they list to help you decide which to pick? What I am imagining is the exact same warnings etc., but just add the words "If you have any of these medical conditions, you should ride the tamer version." If this is what they do, it misses the mark, because most people will either not know of the condition or, like me, will have a negative experience even though they do not have any of the conditions at all. In this situation, they probably would have chosen the original version. If I had been given that type of warning when I started to board, I would have chosen the original because I did not have any of those conditions and, like another poster said, similar warnings exist for many other rides that are no where near as intense as MS. I'm sure they do not actually say "You may have a hidden condition that you are unaware of that, combined with the elements of this ride, may result serious physical injury or death. This has actually occurred with previuos passengers." Now that kind of warning would have really gotten my attention.

I am 37 years old and have been riding roller coasters (and any other rides I can find) since I was six. MS is the first ride ever that has made me sick, and I honestly thought I was dying when got out of that thing. We first went to WDW in Oct of 2004, and decided to try MS. I am not aware of having any of the health problems that they warn against. When the ride ended, it took every bit of effort that I had to make it out of the building. My parents were outside (they were smart enough to not ride) and when they saw me, they immediately asked me what was wrong. I was having chest pains. My arms felt numb. I was dizzy. I had a headache. My vision was blurred. I felt nausous. My mother made me sit down right there on sidewalk and I sat there about thirty minutes before I felt well enough to stand and move around again. Most of the symptoms were gone by then, but the headache remained. We had originally planned to stay in Epcot to watch Illuminations that night, but after another hour or so, we had to leave because of my headache. We went back to the resort and laid down around 5 to 6 o'clock in the evening and slept until the next morning. I woke up feeling fine and the rest of our trip was wonderful. I will never ride the thing again. I'm not even sure I will try to revised version.

These side effects are exactly what happened to me.....I tried to continue to have fun, but the headache was worse than a migraine. I had to go back to the hotel and lay down for the rest of the day. Thank God, I didn't actually get sick!

We just came back Thursday night. Me and my husband tried the tamer version of MS, it was so much better than the original. Our children wouldn't go on the tamer one until we tried it first (they hated the original one and would never do it again). May I say it was sooo nice. We loved it! You can really sit back and enjoy the ride without having to worry about feeling sick or getting dizzy. We told our kids how great it was, they tried, loved it and did it again. No spinning is involved, just a slight simulating going on. Great ride!

I also had a terrible, horrible experience on M:S. At the time, I was 24 and completely healthy, so it shouldn't have affected me the way it did. I'm not claustrophobic -- being shut in the little capsule didn't really bother me at all. The movements and the G-forces on my body were agonizing, however. I couldn't enjoy the ride at all because I was trying to keep myself from vomiting all over the poor people sitting next to me. I managed to keep my stomach intact, but when the ride was over, DH had to hold me up til we got outside. I sat on the sidewalk for 30 minutes fighting dizziness and nausea. After a while I felt well enough to walk around and enjoy the rest of the day. However, later that evening, after a wonderful dinner at Rose & Crown, I got terribly sick again :guilty: and spent a long time in the restrooms in America. I felt totally destroyed and beaten up. My head was pounding, my insides felt like I'd been hit by a truck. My poor DH, he thought I'd died in there! He was about to send a random stranger in to look for me. The next day, I was absolutely fine. But I definitely learned my lesson that day -- M:S is NOT for me!
this was me to a t!

I'm so sorry you all had such a hard time with this ride. I can't speak to the claustrophobia, but I do know that much of the nausea/dizziness many people feel afterwards can (supposedly) be avoided by not looking away from the video screen during the ride. It has something to do with your eyes tricking your middle ears. If you're looking at the screen, your body feels like it's doing what the screen shows, but if you look away or close your eyes (and lose the visual) you feel the centrifuge and get sick.

I don't generally get sick on rides, so as long as I keep my eyes on the movie, I can ride several times in a row (for dd). Dh, however, can usually only manage it once a trip, no matter where he looks.

When I went to ride M:S, I didn't know there was a choice of intense (orange) or milder (green). I walked up to where you enter, and two CM's were standing outside. One said to me, "Green or orange?" I didn't know what he was talking about. He pointed to a sign nearby (which I had walked right by and not paid any attention to!) which compared the two ride experiences. I don't remember exactly what each said, but I decided to start out with the milder version. So I then told the CM I wanted green, and he handed me a card showing that. You then go on into the building and give your card to another CM who then directs you to the correct line. I never did try the original version - didn't want to risk feeling bad all day!

i rode that once i got off the ride and said that is the first and last time im doing that and some guy said same here and gave me a high five. i felt sick all day and had a huge headache. although i want my bf to go on it and everytime i chicken out so he has never been
