We are going to WDW for Christmas. DH and I are so excited about M:S but are on the fence about letting our DS5 ride it. He fits the height requirement and has ridden TOT (at 3YO - won't do it again . .) TT (loves it and rides it often,) . . .I know these aren't the same, but just listed them to give you an idea.

Will we regret it? He has seen the segments on the Disney Channel about it and would like to ride it, but I have read so many reviews about people getting sick, etc, I am wondering what you all think?

Have any of your kids this young ridden?

Thanks!
Angie

No one knows your child better than you and your DH. My advice is for one of you to ride it first and then decide.

You could start out by doing the "baby/child swap" and if the one who rode says OK, the other can ride with your son. I'm sure the CMs will let you do this. They don't want anyone to ride who may not enjoy the experience.

Enjoy!

For what it's worth, my 5yo dd rode M:S with no problems. I very clearly explained to her about not looking around and she did great. She knew going in that she wouldn't be able to see me and just wanted me to touch her leg during the ride so she would know I was there. Absolutely nothing scary happened that I recall - I don't think it even gets dark. She was definitely the smallest kid going on when we did, but again she was fine. She said she liked it, but didn't want to do it again. She can be kind of contrary, so I don't know what it means for her to not want to go again. For comparison, she refused to even enter the hotel for TOT, she loved Splash Mtn. and Test Track. Hope that helps.

My 5 year old DD loved it. I think each child is different.

Thanks for your personal experiences. Of course, every child is different. I was just wondering what other kids this age felt about the ride.

Thanks again!
Angie

Thanks for posting this question. I have a 5 year old also and he is just barely making the height requirement. Anyone have any experience with a 5 year old on Space Mountain? I've ridden it many times but never with a child. Do you sit alone? Are the seat belts secure? Any advice is appreciated.

I am pretty sure you ride Space Mountain alone. I have a 5 year old too, I figure I will put him in front of me and put my hand on his shoulder. We are going to put him on Mission Space, too.
That is too funny about your child liking it, but refusing to ride it again. When we were at Universal last year my son said that about everything. I said "did you love it?" he would say "Yeah!" I would say "want to ride it again?" "No."

My 5 YO DD rode both M:S and Space MT this trip and loved them both. DH had his hand on her shoulder the first time at Space MT because you do ride alone with a safety bar between your legs and across your pelvis. She also tried and loved TOT this trip and has always loved BTMRR and Splash. I think is runs in the family because we all love thrill rides - and it was easier for the 5 YO because her 7 YO sister had ridden all these rides before herand could fill her in.
That said, I would definitely ride M:S first to see how you feel about putting your 5 YO on it. I didn't want them to go on it after I rode it, but DH said they would be fine - and they absolutely were. I think the G forces don't bother the little kids as much as they do the grownups! Have fun either way!

I just looked on the official website and there is a little movie about Space Mountain. From the movie, it looks as if 2 people can ride together, but I don't remember it that way. What is up with that?

I believe that it used to be 2 riders per car - it is now only one per car, and there are 3 cars linked together.

oh crap. I didn't know that! We haven't ridden in a while because DS is usually with us and we don't want to bother with baby swap with the line like it usually is when we finally get around to getting there. . .

There is no way my DS5 will ride in a car by himself. Oh well, Space Mountain will just have to wait a few years. But I think we will go ahead and give M:S a try.

Thanks!
