Has anyone ever had one of these infections?

My DD 19, found a lump under her armpit and we went to the doctor on Friday.
She said it was an infection, worried about where it would be coming from.
DD is on antibiotics and goes back in 2 weeks for recheck.
If still there, she gets to have a biopsy done.

Please send some of the magic Tinkerbell pixie dust our way....one worried mom here.
I know, it's probably nothing, but I am just so glad she found it and we got her in right away.

Lisa

Thanks for all the PD and Prayers. My DD went to the doctor this afternoon and the swelling has gone down. It was about 1 1/2 inches and is now 3/4 of an inch. She will go back in 3 weeks to make sure it continues to decrease, but she is doing fine!
Thanks again for all your advice. We have never been through this before.

Lumps are always so scary, Lisa!! Sending lots of PD and prayers for your DD and for you.

Sending some pixie dust as requested as well as wishes that all will turn out OK for your DD.

DS had a large lump under his arm when he was about 8 that was very tender. We went to the doctor and it turned out he had cat scratch disease. There had not been a test for cat scratch disease at the time...diagnosis was by process of elimination. A week or so later DS participated in a study conducted by the CDC to evaluate a test they thought might be reliable...he tested positive. There was no treatment...things cleared up on their own. Sending good wishes to your DD.

Finding a lump anywhere is just terrifying.

I hope this is just an infection that can be cleared up with antibiotics. Please keep us posted?

My dd used to get swollen (but not infeccted) lymph nodes when she was fighting off some sort of illness. I took her to the the Dr. one time because I knew it was something horrible. She said it was normal for them to swell, and it will often take months for them to completely return to normal size.

Hope your DD is feeling better soon.

The action plan sounds like a good one. It is scary to go through but better that then let something go that could be a problem. Best wishes for your DD. :wizard:

My daughter had an infected lymph node in her neck, and it was painful and looked horrible. She had several courses of antibiotics before it finally went away. The doctor had said he would have to aspirate it if the final antibiotics didn't work. Thank goodness it did!

My son had a walnut-sized, reddened lymph node in his neck when he was two, and it took two rounds of Augmentin before it cleared up completely. I remember being a complete nervous wreck about it, and although I know this will be of no comfort to you as a worried mom, the Dr. said to me, "Always remember--*rare* things happen *rarely*." I always try to keep that in the back of my mind when anything a little out of the ordinary comes up with him medically (doesn't always work :) ).

I do hope this course of AB's works for your dd, and that you see some improvement soon--I do know how much that will ease your mind.

Thanks for the PD and the encouraging words.
I have never had this problem, but thought, since there are so many of us on these boards, someone else might have some info for me.
Yes, it is very scary and my DD was very nervous. The nurse and I told her to take it one day at a time.

Thanks again for the info everyone, I appreciate it.
It has made me feel much better!

We went down this road a few months ago, with my youngest son, age 6. He had a large lymphnode in his neck that was swelled to about 3 centimeters, much larger than the doctors like to see it. All sorts of tests were ordered and we eventually went to a specialist. Fortunately, the lump was not cancerous, just a result of a sinus infection, but the doctor told us this is VERY common in kids, and the swelling might not go down for months and months if not years. The swelling has gone down signficantly since then, but it still is there if you feel for it.

Easier said than done, but try not to worry too much. Infection is the most common cause for lymphnodes to swell, keep that in mind.

And please do keep us posted.

Wonderful news!

I know how worrisome this is, it was truly the longest 5 or 6 weeks of my life when DS was going through it. Thank goodness the swelling has gone down, that is KEY. Hugs!

I had my lymph nodes in my neck messed up :( for the past week. I went into Urgent Care b/c I was getting worried. My neck was sooo tender.

Dumb doctor said it might be strep (but didn't test and my throat was a little red on one side), might be a sinus infection (but probably not). Glands were definately swollen (behind my ears and down the sides on my neck).

He did give me Augmentant (sp). I haven't started it yet. The swelling has gone down even since Saturday and I am almost back to normal. Wish I knew what the deal was tho!

great news, praying it keeps going away

I've had them from time to time. Seem to occur when I'm under stress. They finally burst and go away. Not a big deal. Don't worry.
