Lyft/Uber Tip Question

Is it even possible to pre-pay the tip? I’ve never once done that on Uber or Lyft. I tip in app after the ride is completed.

Sounds like you’re mixing up riding and ordering food. I do pre-pay the tip when ordering food out of hopes they won’t screw with my food.

Tips can be added as a percentage or a dollar amount, and can be added before, during, or after a ride. Tips added before the ride will be shown to the driver before they accept the ride request.

I guess I could see it if it were a weird request or if you felt it was going to make a difference in the wait time. The only thing I generally use Uber for is to and from the airport at my destination for work trips. No need to tip up front for a ride from the Cincinnati airport to downtown.

I don't see the point of tipping ahead of time. You are tipping for the quality of service, how would you know that ahead of time? The one time we used a Minnie Van/Lyft a few years ago there was a screen on their app where you could leave a tip AFTER the conclusion of your ride (I don't recall the exact wording on the screen or if there were other options regarding when you tip). Driver worked for Disney and the subject of tipping never came up. I would be more inclined to leave a tip on the app vs. giving them cash.

Only used them one time, so I can't comment on how your tipping 'history' has any potential impacts on getting future rides.

I've never tipped in advance or had an issue being picked up because of it. The driver gets offered a minimum payout and decides to take it or not. Adding the tip after you exit the car is normal and expected. Cash tips are also OK.
