Lurkyloo Does WDW: Solo Banzai Run for PassPorter’s Decade of Dreams!

All this cake reminds me I have to decide what kind to make for Easter. Ummmmm orange cake.....what kind of orange cake???? I know you are an anti-fruitarian but that is one of my favorites.

Glad you solved your dilemma! But, know I was prepared to ship you oodles of Kiehl's (Does that at least get me trip to Susiecakes, next time I'm in town - I'll foot the food bill, if you drive!). The little octopus cake was so cute! I, however, am very partial to the cupcake! Done correctly, it is the perfect balance of frosting to cake ratio for my satisfaction.

well now..that is just MEAN!!

here I sit..unable to get off the couch and drive myself to the bakery and you post that...

I expect a FedEx tomorrow!!

:guilty: My bad!

Although I just heard that WeGoShop will pick up and deliver cakes you order from Publix - perhaps your problem is solved? :teeth:

This kind of orange cake!

The Second-Place Orange Cake That the 1959 Ventura County Fair Judges Ate Down to the Last Crumb
By Charlie Hayward

Makes one 8" x 12" x 2" or 9" x 13" x 2" cake; may also be baked in two 8" or 9" round layer pans.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and lightly flour pan(s).

Cake:
1 large orange, pulp and rind (reserve juice for topping)
1 cup seedless raisins
1/3 cup walnuts
2 cups sifted flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup milk, divided into 3/4 cup and 1/4 cup
2 eggs, unbeaten

Grind together orange pulp and rind, raisins, and walnuts. (Note: I used a manual, crank-handle meat grinder. Be careful about ruining an electric blender -- this mixture is very gummy and tough to blend.) Set mixture aside.

Sift together flour, baking soda, salt, and sugar. Add shortening and 3/4 cup milk. Beat at low speed to blend, then beat at medium speed for 2 minutes.

Add eggs and 1/4 cup milk. Beat for 2 minutes. Fold orange-raisin mixture into batter and pour into a well greased and lightly floured pan.

Bake at 350 degrees for 40-50 minutes for a rectangular pan, 35 to 45 minutes for two round pans.

Orange-Nut Topping:
1/3 cup orange juice
1/3 cup sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 cup chopped walnuts

Drip orange juice over warm cake. Combine sugar, cinnamon, and walnuts and sprinkle over cake. (An orange-leaf sprig with a perfect white blossom is a nice touch to cap it all off and wow the judges!)

You just made the best dang orange cake on the planet.

And how! Sometimes I have to slice off the bottom of the cake part and put it on top of the frosting to make a sort of sandwich in order to get the proportions right, but not with Sprinkles or Suzycakes.

And yes, I will drive. My car tries to go there automatically every time I get in it! :cutie:

OK, apparently I've been living under a rock, because I just found out today that as of May 1, the full name on your driver's license has to exactly match the name on your airline ticket now that TSA (instead of the airlines) is matching travelers' names to their watch list. Also, if your frequent flyer account name doesn't match, you may not get miles for your flight:

http://www.management.travel/news.php?cid=Secure-Flight-frequent-flyers.Feb-09.05

http://www.executivetravelmagazine.com/page/TSA's+new+Secure+Flight+program?t=anon

And the oh-fish-all press release, which doesn't really highlight these important tidbits...
http://www.tsa.gov/press/releases/2009/0331.shtm

Well about the only place in the universe that my middle name appears is on my license - I never use it for anything else. So I had to call Delta to get them to add it to my airline ticket, and whoooo boy! What a hassle!

First the guy told me "My supervisor said don't worry about it, it doesn't matter." I'm like, "Will your supervisor be at the airport to explain this to TSA when they won't let me pass security?"

Then he said that adding my middle name to my ticket would trigger a $150 change fee! :scared1:

Well of course I freaked out and asked for a supervisor, which resulted in being put on hold for 20 minutes before he eventually conceded and said they'd change the name on my ticket "as a courtesy."

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

Cake o' the Day!

Today's cake is one of the inspiration pix I saved when I was researching wedding cakes. I believe it was Hawaii's entry in People Magazine's 50 Cakes from 50 States article:

That wedding cake is sooooooo cute. I ordered a boring ivory round w/mad hatter decorations. Why am I soooooo boring?

I am working on getting a racecar grooms cake for DF though. He is a driver and I want to surprise him with his car.

Whew! Finally made it through your 2 HM's in 1 Day TR!. (You DIS enabler you!) Add me to the list of Roots fans.

I was sweating bullets wondering if you would make it to the airport on time. But at least you got to see some backstage Splash Mountain out of the deal. (If that can be counted as a benefit.)

Loved all the "posed" shots you and DH came up with. That's just fun stuff right there.

Awesome writing! :thumbsup2

Now I'm popcorn:: for the May TR.

LOL I love that as I read your TR the banner at the bottom is an ad for a bakery. :lmao::lmao:

I enjoy this cake.

All this chocolate talk is making me want to bake my famous chocolate pie this weekend. I think I will. :thumbsup2

I'm glad you shared the info about the names matching on the license and the airline tickets. :thumbsup2

Wow - that Hawian cake looks amazing! And here I sit, hungry at lunch time, looking at cakes again! Will I ever stop the torture.:surfweb::rotfl:

I did not know that whole thing about names matching exactly. My name never matches exactly because its Mary Ellen. Yup, that's my first name.... Mary (space) Ellen. I have no middle name and a space in my name, but that hasn't worked since the onset of computers, so I always end up with a variety of names....

Mary
MaryE
Maryellen
Mary Ellen

I wonder how many times my name hasn't matched!

Carrie - BTW - thanks for the info on how to copy from You tube (you gave it to me on your last thread). I don't know why I kept copying it wrong. Doh! But finally I have it linked to my siggie. It's actually a memorial video for a son's friend with my home recording of a song I wrote. Kinda sad, so don't watch unless you are in the right frame of mind! But, thanks again!

Love it - did I see that you'd eaten all the frosting off the top already? :lmao:

Now how do I get one? Is it on the dessert menu, or do I have to pretend to be celebrating something, such as "today"?

Oh dear! Didn't I teach you ANYTHING in my trip reports about ordering outlandish cakes?! :rotfl: If you're more than 15 days away, there's still hope. Oh wait - maybe it's 30 days on the cake... dang! :headache:

Kidding aside, I'll bet your cake will be lovely! :goodvibes

I know - I sorta kinda don't ever want to go on a backstage tour cuz I don't wanna spoil the magic! :sad2:

Thanks for the kind words! :thumbsup2

I can't believe I missed another PTR. I don't know where the heck I've been...

Glad to see you again! :flower3:

Thanks for the picture! Now I definitely need more details on this famous chocolate pie you speak of.... and perhaps a recipe! popcorn::

I'm glad you shared the info about the names matching on the license and the airline tickets. :thumbsup2

Sure thing! Maybe it's not as big a deal as I've been led to believe, but who wants to risk it when the fate of your flight to WDW hangs in the balance!
