I've been reading in this area for awhile now, and am happy to say it is official. We don't have any fancy camping get up- maybe that will change- so we are staying in the cabins from Jan 1 thru Jan 9. My DH wanted to fly this time, and rental cars were outrageous this late in the game- so no car. But we got a golf cart!! We have never been to the Fort, but I think we are going to love it.

You do understand that there is a chance of addiction,,it can turn into quite a habbit. Once you've try'd it, you just want another,,next thing you know you find yourself thinking about it all the time,,then come the ressies, you'll make one,and then another and another until you FINALLY GET BACK TO THE FORT !!! OH that awesome feel driving up to that sign that reads FORT WILDERNESS , HOME AT LAST !!!!!
:dancer::dancer::dancer:

uh,,excuse me, gotta go make a phone call.

I know. Disney is an addiction enough as it is...

My DH, Chris, was born in Florida and grew up in Orlando. He swore to me he had no desire to ever go back to WDW. Nevermind that he had not been to the parks since before Epcot was built.

So, in 2009, I planned a trip with the purpose of converting him.

We did the Poly, with the deluxe dining.
He loved it, really loved it.

But his one complaint was he didn't get to fish.
I told him I heard that there was fishing around the fort that he might be able to do.

He asked me why we weren't staying there.

So, I had to plan a new trip.

I know, life is tough.
But he stunned me when he told me he thought we should go so soon- I'm used to waiting six months at least for my trip to start.

So any advice welcomed, as this is super rush planning.

Oh, and any fishing pointers for Chris would be appreciated.

HELLOOOOOOO, FRANK!!!! Are you awake yet?? :rotfl2:

I'm sure Frank (Born 2 Fish) will be back to give some great fishing advice. In the meantime, here's mine.

Use day old chicken skin from a Giddyap N Go fried chicken takeout meal from Trails End. Preferably doused with Frank's Red Hot sauce. (not the same Frank.)

I think those Fort fish were raised on leftover chicken or something. They loved it! :yay:

And YOU will love the Fort! Have a great trip.

If you fish Bay Lake, ya might wanna try Crappy fish'n, with the kinda weather Forida's been hav'n, fish'n might be a little tough, Crappy tend to be cold water fish. The bass will likely be out in deeper water coming into shallows when water is warmer.
In this extreme weather, I'd bring all the tackle I could, you never know what the fish might be hitt'n on.
Dave is right, lotta folk use chicken skin in the ponds and canals and do well with it.
Happy fish'n and let us know what ya'll catch !:thumbsup2

Thanks! We are excited. Had to book our airfare to come in the day before our package due to ticket prices. Had a bit of a dilemma trying to choose an offsite hotel for this night. We are a party of five plus an infant (Me, Chris, Chris's mother, my son Aidan (11), our daughters Lily (2.5) and Lucy (5 months).

I got a decent deal on a suite close by that included the option of a minivan rental for the one day we were at the hotel. I decided this was probably useful, as we weren't going to have any transportation otherwise, and it would be handy to haul our many belongings to the fort. Hopefully there is somewhere we can leave our belongings if the cabin isn't ready when we get there.

I finalized my dining plans today, as we will have the free dining. I was stunned that there was so much availability this close to departure. I honestly feared we would be much more limited in our restaurant choices.

I was also stunned when I called Kenny and found that he did indeed have carts available for my week.

So basically, airfare was the only killer in this trip so far.

So now I have to start packing.

Enjoy the free dining, but if it were me, I would pick up some groceries while you have the minivan. That way, if you don't feel like rushing away from The Fort for a meal, you can make something in the cabin and let mousekeeping do the dishes. ;)

Have a blast, take lots of pictures, and come back and post a trip report!

Oh, we definitely will get some groceries. That was something I was worried about acquiring if I didn't get the van. I know garden grocer delivers, but I prefer to get my stuff myself. Plus we aren't planning to go to the parks or restaurants really until Monday, when hopefully the crowds have thinned out. And Chris learned from the Poly trip that BYOB is definitely a good idea.
