Lurkers....time to de-lurk!!!

Other than an occasional 'Congratulations' or 'Thinking of you', I pretty much read, but don't join in on this board, but I'm active on the Trip Reports board. Since you opened the door, I'll be brave and speak up...for a minute. I have enjoyed the podcast for a long, long time, and I often listen to them more than once. It's good background entertainment when I am cleaning house or grading papers. You guys make me laugh often. :)

You mentioned the Disney-themed ideas thread this week. I have some posts and pictures of my crew on that. We love our Disney parties, and next week we'll be doing a Winnie-the-Pooh 1st birthday party for my youngest granddaughter - complete with a log to sit on for pictures, sort of like the one at DTD.

My oldest son just moved to Orlando for a new job, and that is directly related to the DIS Boards. A reader on our trip reports saw my oldest son (middle child) on one of our reports and thought he looked like someone her daughter might like to hang out with when we were in FL sometime. They started talking via FB and text messages, met each other, hung out, and decided they really liked each other. They started traveling back and forth to see each other, and on one of his trips to Orlando, he interviewed for (and got) a job at a fitness center there. He is a personal trainer. Anyway, he is down there with her and our beloved Disney World now! :thumbsup2 I'm pretty jealous! Our average 3-4 trips a year will now average 5-6 times, we hope. We're going on Mother's Day and for our summer trip, and will be planning our October and holiday trips soon.

So, to introduce myself, I'm a Mom, MeMom, second-grade teacher, church camp cook, and Disney maniac. If my son and his girlfriend end up getting married and giving me more grandchildren, I'll have more to thank you for than just a great forum and podcast! ;)

Semi-lurker and obsessive listen here. :wave2:

I used to post semi-regularly on another board, but I seem to be a thread-killer. :confused3 Now I mostly lurk around here.
Headed to the World in a couple of weeks for a much-needed Disney fix!

Greetings All,

I'm a lurker too! My name is Brent. I found the DIS back in 08 when my wife and I were planning our first trip/honeymoon to WDW. At the time I had no idea there were forums or a podcast. My favorite (and undoubtedly the most important) section is the Disney Dining section. I love looking through the menus trying to decide where we should go next.

About 6 months after we returned from our Disneymoon, we were laying in bed, and I looked over at my wife and really out of nowhere said "let's go back to DisneyWorld this year." She looked at me kind of funny, like where did that come from?, but easily agreed. It took 6 months, but the addiction had kicked in! That is when I discovered the boards and the podcast. I've even started listening to the older episodes too, and I've already listened to almost the first two years...I'm getting caught up.

We live in Colorado, so Disney is not close (in either direction), but I totally get my fix from the podcast and reading the boards. I guess out of all the addictions for someone to have, an addiction to Disney Magic is the best way to go.

While I had hoped to go on PCC 2.0, we decided on WDW this year instead (unfortunately, it's a once a year thing at most), but I'm really hoping there will be a PCC 3.0 and we will be able to attend that one!

Thanks to all for making these boards such a welcoming place to visit!

It's funny that there are people coming out as lurkers with 400+ posts to their credit. Is that like Bill Gates calling Warren Buffet "middle class"? I guess it is truly relative.

Maybe we need a new counter in addition to raw posts...like posts per day (which will, as all other things on the board do, immediately be abbreviated into a three-letter acronym -- PPD). In that case, I just may be something like an apparition...a DISjointed Spectre, perhaps?

What a nice story. :goodvibes Penny

I'm so happy to see so many lurkers coming out of hiding!! Not that there's anything at all wrong with lurking (truth be told - about 60% of the visits the boards receive are from people classified as "guests" - meaning they don't log in).

I'm really glad so many of you have 'de-lurked' - welcome to the Podcast board!!

Now - as for the rest of you lurkers who still haven't come out...what are you waiting for??

Pete

This is a great story. I LOVE hearing things like this. Lord knows my fat behind needs a personal trainer - maybe I should give your son a call - although I might be too much for him to handle (stopping in between reps for a cup of coffee and a cigarette :)

Pete

I'm a lurker, just a quiet person by nature. I found the boards when planning a trip in 2005 and have been hooked since. I love the podcast, the boards and DIS-radio. Thanks for all you do! :thumbsup2

Washington Twp - Warren County?? If so, we're neighbors! We live in White Township (which is huge), we live near the county jail if you know where that is.

Pete

I have a feeling he would fuss at you a little.
Or maybe a lot.

He said he saw a Disney boat captain come in to work out last week. I don't know if he talked to him or just saw him in uniform, maybe. I'm sure there are plenty of Disney cast members that work out there.

I guess I'm a podcast board lurker aswell. I do comment on the other boards and listen to the podcasts weekly. I tend to drop in here everyday but for some reason rarely post here. Not sure why. Our trips to WDW wouldn't be the same without the Disboards. Most people I come across here don't realise that WDW is different to WDW. I'd be lost if I didn't have the boards to visit.

Okay, here's another one. Just look at the tagline I gave myself! "I'm a lurker, not a poster!"

I first came on here after a trip to WDW in 2002 wanting to get some info and ask questions about DVC. I tried to do a pre-trip report, try to post, etc. But, I have the same problem as a previous poster, I just end up re-reading my post and thinking I sound dumb or un-funny/quirky/silly/smart, so I just scrap the whole thing. For a while, I would only come on the board when I had a trip to plan. I don't know what's happened lately, but I've been coming almost everyday, check the threads. I only started listening to the podcast since a couple of weeks ago - and I LOVE IT!! Now, I find that I need my daily fix and I don't need a trip in the works in order to come on the DIS. I spend most of my time on the boards when I'm at work, which is from 9pm-1am PST. Most everyone has gone to bed when I'm here!

Alright, here's a little inside info about me. My brother is an Imagineer. He has been on projects in WDW, DL, and Tokyo Disney/Disney Sea (and hopefully Shanghai!). Chances are, if you went to D23, you may have seen or met him at the CarsLand display! I get to have lunch/dinner with (and usually made by) an Imagineer all of the time! :rotfl: And yes, I do get some inside scoops on future stuff, but I won't ever spill!

Now, just maybe I'll be able to come out of lurkdom.....we'll see!

(Yeah, see, I just re-read it and don't see anything that would really grab someone's attention! Oh well!)

Hey- I think I met your brother!! That CarsLand display was incredible. I was standing there trying to record the little movie they were looping about the new land, and one of the the Imagineers came up at the display and started talking to me. He was explaining all about the fact that the display was the final "model" that they would use to create the real thing. He went on to explain all about how they made the rock face, painted the colors, the track, etc. So.. interesting...

yes, I have also been a semi-lurker, I have always been a bit of a wall flower anyway, but I have been become a absolute disunplugged geek since I started listening to your podcasts. I had heard other podcasts before yours but became enchanted with the disunplugged crew. Now I can't wait to download the podcast each week. I even went out and bought a copy of "Pirate Latitudes" for the book club. Now I am just counting the months (years really) till my youngest is out of high school so I can take start coming to the toy story mania parties and podcast cruises. You guys are great, and although I did enjoy the new format, I am really glad you came back Pete!

Professional lurker here. My wife accuses me of lurking at home all the time! I guess it's just my nature. She usually does enough talking for the both of us. I'm going to refer to myself as a backstager from now on.

I do post here - probably less than once a month though :) So I classify as a lurker for the most part. I have been around these boards for several years and have been a podcast listener for well over 2 years.

I'm the Disney geek and heavy-planner in our family. DH likes Disney, but not to the extent I do. I could go annually where he is happy every 3-5 years. We are currently expecting our first child in August though, so it will be quite some time before we make it back to Orlando. Doesn't stop me from lurking on the boards and listening to the podcast every week!

We're actually starting on our Mickey Mouse themed nursery this morning.....

Anyways, hi :)

OH!!! I love your avatar, you have just combined my 2 passions in life, Disney and scuba diving! Just wanted to say :thumbsup2

LOL. I too bought "Pirate Latitudes" and have been lurking on that thread as well.

I'd like to say Thank You to the entire DIS Team for all the information and the laughs on the podcasts. Also - I had NO IDEA that it didn't cost extra money to have Dreams Unlimited help you plan your vacation!! You should tell people that more often. Maybe I'm just dumb, but I always thought that using Travel Agents added a lot of costs to the trip.I'll be using you all for my next trip in September - back to Disneyland - My Favorite!

alright, you've twisted my arm. I'll come out of hiding. I'm actually a rather regular poster over on the teen board, but seeing as I'm almost 19 years old, I feel like it's about time I start dipping my toes in other boards around here. :)

anyways, I lurk on the podcast board almost everyday (wow, that sounds creepy) and way back when I used to post here occasionally. I love the podcast. I listen every week, sometimes multiple times. You guys just make my day. I feel like I know all of you, even though we've never met...wow that sounds even creepier. haha

:wave2: hello everyone, maybe I'll make my presence known more often around here. you guys seem like a lovely group of disers. :)
