Luring VWL/BCV/BWV lovers to the next DCV

We like vacationing in central Florida because of WDW (parks) so the closer to a park the better. Would be interested in CRV, AKL if it has a walkway or waterway for a boat, POLY, GF or anything on the monorail, or a whole new Park and new DVC nearby. Anything by bus has no interest to us, golf, shopping, food, swimming, size of a room, quality of a room-nothing overcomes location and the current quality/amenities of BCV/BWV/VWL.

Look over at Universal at Portofino Bay. A beautifully themed resort on a par with Disney theming! Gives a good idea of how an international theme can be carried out in Florida! :thumbsup2

how about closer to the MK than WL.... okay back to the Cont....

I really think it would be great to be a DVC member and able to walk to 3 of the 4 parks.... having the monrail would be a plus. Since it would be close to the MK - how about a Fantasyland theme.... a Castle that you could stay in....

pools - now Disney has stated that they aren't doing SALB again. however a lazy river would be a good choice with a nice slide - more like CSR than BC/YC...

I like the WS theme! Disney does not have an India resort style nor a Australia, South America theme ... all of which would be different....

there is too many Atlantic East coast US themes resorts.....

I also think it would be very cool if SSR added in a pony barn and pony/horse camp as a recreation option. Horses plus the mommy and me services at the spa plus access to the bibbidi bobbidi boutique would = little girl heaven. I'd have given up a trip to Disney if it had meant I could ride a pony when I was 7.

There's always the Ranch @ FW ?

Why not another SALB? That would be a great draw for one of the removed DVC's.

I think most -- not all, but most -- DVC members want walking access to one or more parks and on-site fine dining, as well as some entertainment close by.

There are plenty of locations for Disney to provide this.

1. The Contemporary idea has been mentioned so many times it must be a possibility.

2. Could a small resort be built near the entrance of MGM? Members could access that park easily and still walk to EPCOT and the Boardwalk.

3. Wasn't a hotel called Asia originally planned for the area southwest of the CR and northeast of the TTC? Why not put a DVC resort there?

4. Is there any room to add a Polynesian style DVC?

5. Personally I wouldn't want a Animal Kingdom DVC, but surely there is room to build one within walking distance of that park.

6. Finally, I wouldn't mind a "cheapo" DVC resort with no on-site dining and bus service to the parks, provided the point requirements were only about 40% of those at the BCV or BWV.

too expensive.

not only all the lifeguards that this pool requires, but the upkept as well...

DVC resorts like to kept the cost down if at possible.

Disney needed a great pool for the BC/YC - remember they were the first deluxes (well besides golf inn then Disney inn now sog) not on the monrail. DI was never filled to capability like the monrail resorts were.

so they needed something to attract guests away from the monrail.

My dream: a dvc on a monorail line.

Whether that means the Contemporary or expanding monorail service. I know that this is a dream, but for me, the ONLY downside of WDW as compared to Disneyland is how hard it is to get in and out of the Magic Kingdom after the fireworks. And yes, the fireworks are a necessity for our family.

One of the main reasons I go to Disney is convenience (we travel with 3 small kids so anything that makes it easier adds to the feeling of a real vacation). So I guess to make the stand alones a "choice" option for me, Disney would have to make things a little more convenient than the current stand-alones.

One related issue is ease of transportation. We don't generally rent cars, and one of the main reasons we go to Orlando and stay at Disney (as opposed to offsite) is how easy they make the transportation (for example, to and from the airport-- to and from the parks....)

I've stayed in one of the current stand-alones, and I found getting around the different areas a little incovenient. To take advantage of many of the resort's amenities --pool, gym, food-- one has to take a bus/long walk (I know you can request to be in a closer building but such requests aren't always honored.) This would be worse in the bad weather. So i would want the stand alone to be less spread out.

Also, the hotel-attached DVCs have at least one transportation option to parks other than the bus. If one of my kids falls asleep in a stroller, I can wheel them on a monorail and/or a boat to get home. Getting on and off the buses with strollers are a little difficult, so I would want the stand-alone to be accessable to a park some other way than a bus.

I also like the resturants and room service in the hotel-attached DVCs. Sometimes we put a full day in at the parks, and want to come "home" and take a break before dinner. Knowing i can get have fine dining, table service, and/or room service without having to worry about packing up and traveling again is something that makes our stay more of a vacation.

Just back from a stay at BWV and SS . I really liked BWV, more family friendly. I couldnt go out with the rest of the party (5 other adults) some nights because I have and infant 3 mos and toddler. The BWV made it easy to stay in. They had a balloon man and magician in the lobby - that entertained a toddler and was easy for me to get to alone with the 2 kids. Also, I could sit outside the lobby and see fireworks.
They had room service, which was great for the nights I stayed in. I fed the kids, and then later ordered something for myself, sat on one of the 3 balconies in our room and ate.

At SS, the first night I got home late from MK and needed more milk for the 2 year old and got to the artist palette right before closing (11pm). If I had gotten back from MK and later than 10 I probably wouldnt have made it there.
the next night I stayed in with the kids, got them to sleep and thought I would order in at least a good desert -- but then I found out - no room service. Why? Then, I opened the curtains in my bedroom, no balcony -- why?
SS seemed much less like a resort hotel than an apt complex. Although the rooms are nice, there isn't much of a draw that I can tell. My next add on will be a waitlist for BWv.

What would I like to see:

A stand alone DVC resort designed like the Disneyland Hotel in Paris or the GC at DLR. Right above or next to the main entrance.

There is room to do this At AK and Epcot, but would feel sorry for those with the dreaded parking lot view. And MGM & MK lack space. Although there are some options that would require some major changes:

Epcot - build a DVC resort at the 2nd bus loop away from the entrance
MGM - Where the boat dock currently sits (this would require moving the boat dock and re-configuring the entrance plaza and resort bus loop.
MK - Anywhere else that they can put the monorail station? Then build a DVC that stretches from there to the other side of the canal that is west of the MK.

Perhaps if ever they build a 5th theme park, this can be incorporated into the design.

Hmmmm...this is tough as there is so much that I love about each of the resorts--stand-alones and hotel-types both!

However, put my in the same camp as Diane S. in that I want something truly resorty...where I can spend the day there and really feel both relaxed and entertained. This would mean incredible theming, great pool plus lots of activities, etc.

Of course, walking distance to a park is also a huge perk. It seems as though AK is the one park that is the most difficult to get to for DVC'ers. We can walk to Epcot or MGM from BWV/BCV. And MK is accessible by boat from VWL. So, with this line of thinking...maybe those VAK are a possibility...lol...

The only things that will take me away from the BWV are:

Another DVC along the MGM/Epcot Canal

A deluxe hotel type resort with lower points

VAKL

I wasn't excited about the possibility of a Contemporary-area DVC simply because the Contemporary doesn't thrill me. Even though it's on the monorail line. So I guess theming would be the major draw for me. These would entice me to add-on (not in order):

1. DVC resort on the AKL savannah (would need its own pool)
2. DVC resort at Poly (can't imagine where it would go)
3. DVC resort on Bay Lake, with a lakehouse theme--perhaps with gas fireplaces in cabins and a place for kids to fish from a dock/wharf? Lots of trees... marshmallow roasts/movies at night similar to FW. Biking/hiking/walking paths....maybe even a canoeing route. This would have boat service to MK.

over close to the Epcot Kennel is a lovely piece of land with one of their lagoon/streams - you can't see this land anymore - because of that silly turtle. Disney closed it off. (to kept the dogs from borthering the turtle). but this is nice - the only problem is the garden back stage area - but they even kept that pretty nice.

anybody (besides me) think WDW goes a bit to far to protect its turtles....

they quit allowing anyone to feed the birds, fishes - because of the ones at Pop... (that is what I get for telling)
