So a family member has lupus n is taking her first trip to the World. She is in her 60s n will be using her own scooter...is it more convenient, safer, quicker etc to use her own car to drive to parks with scooter or rely on accessible Disney busses? Any insight would be appreciated!

I have Lupus among other things and usually use my own scooter. I only use Disney buses. Since I am familiar with the scooter, it is easy to get on and off buses and boats. Just remember to do it in turtle mode.

As a matter of fact, a whole boatload of people stood and cheered after I easily parked on a boat from POFQ to DTD--it seems that someone with a rented ECV had just given up and exited the boat at POR after trying to go full speed and running into other passengers!

It probably helps that I parallel park my ECV in my apartment to store it and do this several times a day!

So did u stay at POFQ? Was it pretty accessible? Not sure of her driving/parking abilities with the scooter. Just wondering what others experiences were.
Thanks for the reply!

I love POFQ--I've stayed there 3 times. It is very accessible and easy to board the bus as it is usually the first stop!

I am like Piper and don't find the buses or boats difficult to use with a scooter. There are pluses and minuses to both modes of transportation, but either would be fine. It all depends on the person. I like the fact that with the buses, I don't have to take my scooter apart. I like to have a car for the ease of coming and going without a crowd. Is it worth the added expense if you are renting a car just to go back forth to the parks? No

I'm going to move this to the disABILITIES Board ( it was on disABILITIES Community Board).

Many people really like POFQ because it is a smaller resort and more compact. It does have elevators in each building. The only thing to be aware of is that it is built with streets, with curb cuts. So you will need to look for curb cuts when entering or leaving 'sidewalks'.

For the buses, practice parallel parking to the left. If you can do that, you will be set. Some people find it easier to back up the ramp because once you are in, all you have do is make a turn to get into the spot.

You go, girl! I'm applauding you now!:cool1:

I almost never will take the buses, unless there is an exceptional reason. But I have a lift on the back of my car. If I had to disassemble/reassemble the ECV I would use more Disney transportation between Parks.
