Lunch @ MGM?

My original thought on our MGM day was to make a lunch ADR at Sci-Fi. Bad reviews are throwing me off, though. DH & I were there once, many moons ago, and as I recall, the food was "ok", not great, and certainly not worth the money.

I also thought about 50's PT, but I'm not sure our travelling party would enjoy that theme so much.

So...any other ideas? Good TS or CS recommendations would be appreciated!!

Thanks!

We have done both and like them both!:rotfl: At the Sci-fi, the onion rings, hamburgers and also the ribs are excellent! Have gotten the Hamburger for dinner on occasion also. At the 50's, there is no place better IMHO for fried chicken or chicken salad sandwiches. Either place is good. This really doesn't help at all, does it??

:) :)

Of course it helps! It's always good to hear a good review!!

Like I said, DH & I were there like 7 years ago, and I only vaguely remember the food.

I think my DS would love the atmosphere at Sci-fi, so I may still stick to that plan. But I'd love to hear other opinions of in park dining at MGM!!

Thanks!

Well, there is the Brown Derby. I have not tried it as I don't care for the menu, that is just me everyone! No flames, please! :rotfl: For counter service, I guess we like the Pizza place and we also have tried the Sunset Ranch Market across from Beauty and the Beast. Not bad, just outside in the heat!

i love the scifi. i actually resisted for a long time but decided back in march to give it a shot. i'm going back this week too.

i had the chicken penne pasta (not on menu) and rather enjoyed it. and loved the news of the future.

you've been there before so you know best, but if i were so inclined to make reservations for somewhere, i wouldn't let what other people think interfere with it. i like many places many people hate and vice versa.

Personally, I wouldn't waste a TS anywhere in MGM. Nothing has ever been worth it to us. For CS we like Backlot Express - great grilled turkey sandwiches!

I personally love Brown Derby. I think it is one of the best in-park restaurants (any park)

I agree with TigerKat. I won't use a table service in MGM because nothing is really worth it to us. We just usually go to a CS and leave the park for dinner.

DD and I love 50s PTC for lunch or dinner. It is one of the few places where DD will eat her entire lunch.

We also really like Pizza Planet. The pizza is okay. Keep in mind that is fast food theme park pizza. DD has to eat there whenever we go to MGM.

I too have never tried Sci Fi because of the bad reviews.

I've never had an amazing meal at MGM so I agree that it's not worth a TS credit. Brown Derby is fantastic, but again, I don't think it's worth the two TS credits. If it was only one, I'd say for for it. :)

I'm a fan of Mama Melrose's & Brown Derby. 50's primetime was very good too.

Just to clarify - we're not on the DP, so anywhere we eat will be OOP.

I'm leaning toward sticking with my original plan and doing Sci-fi. I think DS will really love the cars, and we're all burger fans, so we'd probably stick with them anyway.

Though I might check out the Brown Derby. Just to see..

Thanks for all the help.

Big fan of Mama Melroses's here. If you go during the lunch hours, ask for Barbara, she is Great!

I agree with a few other posters, Brown Derby is a great meal. Another thought is lunch at the Playhouse Disney character meal at H&V if your DS likes Little Einstens or JoJo's Circus. The food is pretty good for buffet fare and the character interaction is wonderful.

I had the same dilemna except it was dinner instead of lunch.Decided to take the boat to the Boardwalk and go to Spoodles instead, MGM really doesn't have anything that appeals to either of us.

What about Beaches & Cream ? You can walk from MGM to the BC and eat there. They don't take ADRs though. A lot of people on the DIS said the burgers a B&C are the best on property.

I've eaten at Sci-Fi twice and will probably eat there again on the next trip (husband loves it). In my opinion, Sci-Fi is a place worth trying, but to echo the advice of others: keep it simple. Stick to burger, fries, onion rings, shakes -- that kind of thing. I once had a sandwich there and it was bone-dry. But my husband loved his burger.

Here's what's worth it: the atmosphere. It really does have a drive-in feel and the movie clips (shame they won't just play a whole movie) are tremendously funny! They truly harken back to a time when it took a lot less to scare people. A warning about sitting in the classic cars, though -- I'm not sure two people can face each other. I seem to recall that all car seats point at the movie screen, meaning my husband and I had to sit right next to each other to have a conversation. As long as that doesn't bother you, sink into a seat, kick back, and pretend you've taken a time machine to the '50! popcorn:: popcorn:: popcorn::
