Luigi says "Arrivederci" to the beach balls

Yep, was confirmed on Mousewait that the balls were removed today.

bummers.... my daughter would have loved them, she's a beach ball freak :)

I can confirm that there were no beach balls yesterday (Monday) morning, but they had been there the prior mornings. We had our best ride ever and it may have been due to the fact that fewer of the other tires were bunched up trying to grab the balls. -- Suzanne

I say if it speeds up the wait times...please remove them! :thumbsup2

I'd be interested to know if does make a difference. We rode twice and I noticed most people were against one of the sides trying to get balls. DH liked them but I saw them as a distraction. And I wonder how time consuming it was to keep them filled all the time.

Well without beach balls, I'm not sure where the entertainment lies. Seems like you are left with bumper cars with only marginal control of where you are going.

The ride rather plods along without them I'm afraid. It's fun to drive them around, but to where? To what end? Where am I going?

Without purpose, their slow pace gets exposed.

I've always thought is was interesting that 2 of the 3 Cars Land rides are versions of rides already in California Adventure.

Tuck and Roll's Drive 'em Buggies
= Luigi's Flying Tires
Francis' Ladybug Boogie = Mater's Junkyard Jamboree

The ladybug boogie reminds me more of the teacups. Hopefully people will find fun in the flying tires without the balls...maybe they can somehow make them easier to maneuver?? Then maybe they will be more like real bumper cars...just airfilled...there would be purpose there in the game to bump others. :confused3

We rode it yesterday without the balls. My DD and I thought it was better. We really "leaned" ourselves into a rather quick cruise across the "floor". My DD felt that more people are "getting" how to lean together because she said more of the cars seem to be moving quickly around the area. Really didn't miss the balls, they were colorful but not necessary.

The key to moving the tires is to lean in the same direction as your fellow passenger. My DD and I just reached for the bars in front of us or leaned back together. A lot of hysterical laughter in the tires around us.

The ride certainly looks drab without the balls, so I'm glad we got to see it and ride and get photos with the beach balls. But overall I think removing them is probably a good idea. I have to wonder if someone got hit in the face and complained. I hope it will cause the slow load time to speed up a tad. Maybe it will cause fewer people to even want to ride.

DD and I had no trouble getting our tire to move. It was fun.

They took the large beach balls out of Luigi's Flying Tires! It looks so dull and boring now!

I'm so glad I got to ride it with them. They only lasted 59 days. :sad2:

Yeah ... I heard about that too

As much fun as they were ... I saw several people get bonked in the head by the wayward things ... It's probably a good thing.

I probably sound like a major party pooper, and must disclose I've yet to experience Luigi's, but this news doesn't make me the least bit sad!

Why?

Because I'd read reports of people getting pegged with beach balls thrown by other passengers while riding (apparently this can smart a bit). The idea of strangers whipping beach balls at me was pretty unappealing... and God help the person who hurts my child while on a ride at The Happiest Place On Earth, inadvertantly or not. Had planned to skip Luigi's entirely on our upcoming trip because of this concern. Now I'll reconsider!

Also understood the beach balls were causing the attraction to load even more slowly than it was projected to b/c so many guests became distracted by/were playing with them instead of getting directly onto their tires.
