Luggage weight limits

What are the luggage weight limits & how many can you have with United? Haven't flown in years. Thanks, YO

Not positive with United but most of the other majors are limited to 50 lbs (US Airways, Cont., Delta) without an additional charge.

SW and Continental are still 70 lbs. The airlines change the limits, GO TO THE AIRLINE WEBSITE and check for yourself. I wouldn't rely on a poster that may be giving old information.

Also check the linear dimension of your bag. Some the larger bags are oversized and you'll pay extra regardless of weight.

Tip the skycap and your bag is less likely to be weighted.

thanks for the tip about the tipping. Also you are so right about going to the website and looking for myself, I was just being lazy. I did go & look it up so if someone else needs the info here it is: carry-on size 9 x 14 x 22 (1) plus one personel item such as a purse.
checked bags 62 inches (2) with a weight limit of 50 lbs.
it gets real expensive if you go over that with an oversized bag at $80 and $25 if you are heavier than the 50 lbs.

Keep in mind that there's usually two different weight limits for checked luggage. One is for the total checked baggage weight limit (usually 70 lbs.) and the other is the single bag limit (usually 50 lbs.)

That would depend on the airline. Delta is 2 bags, 50# each, SWA is 3 bags at 70# each (plus the carry ons). I have yet to see a combined weight limit anywhere. Can you link one?
