Our next trip starts out with Fri and Sat at ASM, then we will transfer to SSR on Sunday thru Thursday. What is the best way to transfer luggage? If we have Disney do it, has anyone had any mishaps? OR should we take a taxi to make sure that we at least know where our things are? Am I too concerned?

I don't think your to concerned. While mishaps can happen they don't often, but... with that said it depends on your plans, Disney transfers are spread out through out the day so your luggage may not arrive until later. If you are planning to go to the parks and it is not an issue then sure let them transfer the luggage for you, if you are planning to hang around the hotel then I would do it myself.

In August I transferred from SSR to BCV. I just contacted the front desk. About 15-minutes later they came & took my luggage.

They put tags on the luggage, just like at the airport. It was at BCV in about an hour in tip-top shape.:wave2:

We have only had our luggage transferred once and while there were no mishaps, it isn't always as efficient as Doug Wolfe's experience. Of course at All Star's, I think you have to take it to the lobby (they won't pick it up at your room) and then Disney get's it from the lobby to the next resort. I think they told us it would be at our new resort by 4pm. And of course, after you check in at the new place, you have to call down for them to bring it up.

If you choose to have Disny move it, I would allow some "non- committed" time on Sunday late afternoon. So if the luggage hasn't arrived, you have some time to follow up on it and get it delivered to the room without affecting scheduled park time.

Call the bell desk in advance to check if they can handle refrigerated goods (if you plan to have any). All of the DVC resorts can store your groceries in refrigerators as part of the move, but I don't know about the other Disney properties.

We just stayed at the VWL Oct 2-8 and switched to Caribbean Beach Oct 8-10
No problem with Disney transferring over our cold items

I would transfer the luggage myself. The price of the taxi ($20 tops, incl tip) would be more than worth it for my peace of mind.

To me, it's important to know the luggage is at the "new" resort (and not somewhere in transit) and therefore available to me whenever I may need it.

I also like to check in early - and sometimes you get lucky and the room is ready! If so, I want to drop off the luggge in the room before I head out for the day.

In the end, it's really just a personal preference - so do whatever is most convenient for you.

Best wishes -

Just got back from a 4 day trip. 2 nights at POP Century then transferred to BWV. Called down to luggage services at POP - they asked me what time we wanted the luggage picked up. Told them 9:00 a.m. and what room # we were in.

It was all taken care of perfectly. BWV had the luggage when we checked in at 1:30 p.m. :)

We didn't have a car, so had to depend on the luggage transfer thing. What a nice perk when staying on-site! :Pinkbounc
