Anybody know how much DCL charges if you just want your luggage transferred from MCO to Cruise ship? Thinking about taking limo, but there are 8 of us & limo may not hold all our luggage. TIA ! Kathy :wave2:

The airlines were there and did it for no extra charge. Even provided our boarding passes (USAIR). This was in January and I have since heard they may not let you do it unless you are booked on DCL transfers, so a recent cruiser may have more recent, accurate information for you, but I was not charged anything additional.

I know of people who have done this without being caught....but if they catch you, they bill your credit card the same price for luggage transfer that they would have for a person--$25. As far as I know, they don't have a "luggage only" transfer.

Please, I do realize that you asked how to do it "legally." I'm not trying to imply that you would do it on the sly.

I do have a question though. IF you are flying one of the airlines that has port check in--aren't you really transferring it to the airline at that time? And if that's true, DCL isn't transferring it, the airline is? So, in that case, doesn't it make sense that anyone can do it? I know that the personnel at the port who take the luggage are airline people, not DCL people. I do realize that not all airlines have check in at the port available.

Could you maybe call the limo company and ask them to be sure that the vehicle they send is big enough for all the luggage?

Thanks for your replies. Kcashner: I didn't take any offense to your post. I am trying to do it "legally", & I do have a question in to some of the limo services about the luggage issue. It seems most of the limo's can only accomadate 4 or 5 pieces of luggage & than some carry on pieces. Luggage can not go with you in the passengar portion of the car, so even if I was to rent a larger limo that wouldn't help. I know I read Happy Limo uses a trailer, but from what I read I believe it is not for any of the Limo's. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. Right now I have a 12 passenger van rented thru Budget, but thought for a little extra we could do a limo & start our vacation off on the right foot! Kathy :wave2:

I misread your post, I am so sorry. I thought you meant when leaving. That is my bad.

If you are arriving the same day as your cruise, you can use the luggage tags included with your documents and your luggage will automatically find their way to your door on the ship. Even if you do not use DCL transfers. It will be taken by airport workers and placed on the trucks headed for the ship. My TA told us this is how it works, because we were never going to be using the transfers, but ended up going down the day before. She said not to use them the day before as they would get held at the airport by Disney.

Once again, sorry for my confusion.

Wog,
It is the part on the way to the port that is not supposed to happen unless you used DCL transfers. IF you buy transfers, they handle your luggage. If you do not have DCL transfers, you are supposed to be responsible for your luggage. If they catch you leaving your luggage for them, you will be charged for transfers. Your TA was wrong about it being OK even if you don't use DCL transfers.

On the way home...same deal if your airline doesn't allow a check in at the port. If your airline is one that does, I believe that anyone can check luggage with the airline regardless of how the people are getting back to MCO. That isn't a service thru DCL, it is a service by the airline.

On the subject of transfers...we are flying in on a red-eye and land at MCO at 6:30 am or thereabouts -- we have transfers with DCL - do they recover our luggage at MCO??? I've heard something about special tags for the luggage? I just booked my cruise a couple of days ago for the Sept. 9 Wonder - I know the documents are coming, but I have to admit, I'm a little nervous about the whole "not seeing your luggage again until you're on the ship" thing - LOL. Is this true??

Thanks K I will have to let my TA know. Appreciate the info.

kalypso....in theory, yes, DCL should handle your luggage since you have transfers but......with a flight getting in that early I do not think DCL luggage handlers are working yet. I would call DCL and ask them how it is to be handled. You may have to claim your own luggage and then give it to one of the DCL reps when you see them for transport to the ship.

Thanks a bunch, MJ - that's kind of what I planned on doing! I didn't think there'd be DCL folk hangin' around MCO at 0-dark-thirty! LOL
