Luggage transfer between resorts to no longer include food?

Tikiman has a new post today saying that a new policy for luggage transfer between resorts will not include food, drinks or meds. Disney will only transfer luggage. Does anyone know if this is true?

I posted the same question on the Disney Resorts board some hours ago. No response yet. Tikiman is a reliable source, and I can understand if Disney no longer wants to take responsibility for maintaining proper temperatures for medications and potentially hazardous foods. It would be nice to have confirmation, however.

Yeah, I just did a chant with MS and they could not confirm nor deny. All I got was a Bell Services can change and they sent me a link for up to date Disney released info. I did check other posts but sorry, did not see it had been addressed. I do get it about medication but its just so handy to hand the cooler over to them to handle the milk and cheese.

I agree - we rarely do split stays, but when we do, we have at least a few groceries to transfer. This won't make us stop doing split stays when we have to, but it does mean that we'll transfer everything ourselves at one time. It doesn't sound as though they won't place items in their refrigerator/freezer storage, just that they don't want to be responsible for them during the time those items are between resorts.

For the first time, I'm doing a grocery stop and picking up a gallon of milk for my son. Would bell services keep that cold for me while I wait for my room to be ready?

Hmmm. If this turns out to be true, I wonder if this would include non-perishable items such as bottled water, coffee pods ,etc. Then again, it would be logistically simpler to just have a flat yes/no policy I suppose.

We don’t have confirmation of this new policy from Disney yet, so we don’t know. However, I am definitely hoping that they will still refrigerate/freeze items that you bring to them and are simply not taking responsibility for keeping them at proper temperature while they’re being moved from one resort to another. We often arrive with groceries as well as luggage for Bell Services to store until our room is ready!

I’m not aware of any official word from Disney yet. What I’m hearing makes me think they’re talking about refrigerated/frozen items being moved from one resort to another. I can imagine it’s very difficult to make sure they stay at proper temperature during the hours-long transfer process, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they simply don’t want to take that responsibility anymore.

Right, I can see that and I imagine people are doing more split stays right now, at least DVC members seem to be. The only reason we are is because I added on at Riviera a few months ago, so this will be our welcome home trip. We also haven‘t stayed at Kidani in a few years so with the extra points I had, I booked a longer vacation.😊

As a person who’s lost refrigerated items before because they don’t put them in the refrigerator, I’m ok with the cold stuff not being included. However not transferring food at all seems a bit odd. I think I would just put dry items in a zipped up bag or suitcase.

Confirmed by the following posts:

Rumor (now confirmed): Disney World no longer transferring refrigerated goods between resorts
Multiple people in the DVC Fan group confirmed they were unable to transfer refrigerated goods using bell services. One person mentioned a CM who told them it was due to an incident with a guest’s medicine that caused them to change this policy, so seems like it was a liability issue.

and

Luggage transfer now luggage only, no food or meds?
Multiple FB posts yesterday (7/24) that Disney will still transfer luggage between resorts but not food or medications. Can anyone there now confirm? If true, I can understand their not wanting to be responsible for keeping items at proper temperature.
I booked a split stay at Grand Floridian for next month and they told me the same thing today on the phone. :( I can totally understand though. The added fridge/freezer stuff can make luggage transfer hectic. Add to that if Disney doesn't keep something cold enough or accidentally freezes something like meds.

Alrighty then, just confirmed with "Cesar" at Disneyworld.disney.go during an online chat under the resorts know before you go- that they have stopped moving the food and other items. He said this was due to "Covid" and was no longer offered. He also said that it was a service that has not been offered since the resorts reopened. I told him that was not exactly true. So Disney is stamping it with the Covid stamp as the reason no longer to offer.

^^ Or 'Cesar' didn't know the real reason behind the decision. I would imagine when Disney changes some policy it takes time to get that information to everyone who interacts with the public. Most likely the chat/phone people get all kinds of questions on topics they aren't directly familiar with.

Regardless of what the real reason is, this is the one today's Cesar gave. Not sure if we'd get the complete answer anyway. Sure is easy to say it's Covid than whatever the true reason may be.

I'm immediately suspicious of information any CM provides when part of their information is flat out wrong. Regardless of the reason provided though, there seem to be enough reports of this (no more transfers of refrigerated items) that people have been told from CMs to confirm it's true.

Fortunately we drive and carry all the stuff from a mini fridge in our cooler.

I typically order beverages (diet Coke or Diet Dew) in 2L, 20oz bottles or cans when we split our stays between studios and 1BR's. I put the bottles/cans in the mini-fridge in the studio while we are there and then have bell services transfer them (with our other luggage) to the 1BR when we move. I just put the unopened ones back in the grocery bags. I don't expect them to stay refrigerated though...is this something that they would still be willing to move as "luggage"?
