Luggage Timing to Resort

Agreed with the above. 3 hours. We learned this once, and never did it again.

What we do now, is we DO NOT use the luggage tags. Instead, we go get our luggage and bring it with us to the ME. Now, clearly this is a bit of a pain, but on ANY OTHER vacation, it's what we do. And it's so much better having our stuff with us, and not having to think about packing a separate bag, etc.

Totally agree! This works for us also. We fly in from the UK arriving around 6pm. Mega jet lag. It is easier for us to get the bags ourselves. Once we waited until 1am! Never again. That is 6am as GMT is +5 hours. Not fun... We have been up almost 24 hours.

Where are you staying?
No, I don't believe they will leave it outside your room.
In the morning you would have to call Bell Services and ask for it to be delivered to your room. You would need to tip. You need to be in the room when they come
Actur, no. SMS luggage delivered the next morning still is SMS luggage delivered. Disney covers the tip, and the guest doesn't need to be in the room.
Sounds like the simplest thing to do is get the luggage at the airport and then take it to the DME bus.
Then you miss out on one of the great conveniences of DME. And delay your arrival at the resort.

Airlines misdirect almost a thousand bags a day. You should always carry on you what you'll need for the first 24 hours at your destination.
If I pick up my luggage and bring to ME will bell service bring to my room at my resort?
Only if you (a) bring it to Bell Services when you get off the bus, (b) call to request delivery, and (c) are in your room.

On the other side, I don't get why people go get their own luggage if they arrive during luggage delivery times. Getting luggage on a trip is akin to the 7th layer of hell for me. One of the reasons Disney is high on our list of vacation destinations is the ME and Luggage service. I've never needed a single thing in my bags that I check and I don't even pack 24 hours worth in my carry on bag. Just 1 change of clothes to go to the park. 99% of the time I'm off in the parks and by the time we return to the room, our bags are there waiting for us. I'm still waiting on when this service is offered when I go home so I can skip baggage claim there too

TOTALLY get this-

We never do a park the first day- EVER. So letting Disney get your bags makes sense in this case. It would be annoying to have to get luggage and deal with getting it to the resort, etc.
For those traveling and going to the resort and NOT going to a park, it's probably best to keep the luggage with you.

Each to their own. The bottom line is, either you wait 3-5 hours for your luggage and let Disney deal with it, or you schlep your stuff through the airport and deal with it.

At least we all end up in the same place. :)

no you do not need to be in the room. (and I am a server and always tip 20% wherever I go) you do not NEED to tip. I would tip if I were there but you don't need to sit in your room on vacation waiting for the bell hop just to tip him.
on our arrival day we often sit by the pool waiting. (we wisely pack our swimsuits and books and change of dry clothes in our carryons, and a few snacks. etc) and often have gone back to our room to find our luggage there.

I LOVE that when I give the sky cap at Ohare airport our checked bags, the next time I have to deal with them will be IN my resort room!!! and when checking out, I go to the airline resort check out at the resort, and next time I will see the bags is in Chicago... as per another thread, this is one of the reasons I don't care for Swolphin no ME. (although I did enjoy the Dolphin.. before I discovered renting DVC points)

if you want to go to a park on check in day, your checked bags will make it to your room while you're at the park.. magic! and you can put your carry ons in bell services.

A few trips ago we discovered the joys of using the skycaps. We always take a early flight, well one trip with all the "get to the airport 2 hrs early" stuff, we were there before the SW check in counter even opened. So first we had to wait with our bags for SW people to show up, then do the 2 step, move luggage, wait, 2 steps , move luggage wait and repeat 52 times. Now it's hand off the bags, tip, and off we go. And we were thrilled when SW joined the resort check in for the same reason. No waiting for bell services to get bags, store bags, retrieve bags.

Forever! Everyone else is right it takes several hours. We landed late at our last trip and we were moving to a different resort the next day anyway so packed an overnight bag and asked front desk to keep our luggage from DME overnight and we would stop by bell services in the morning to retrieve and transfer luggage.

At 1:15 bell services is knocking at my door trying to deliver luggage while we are sleeping.

SO my suggestion if you decide not to have your luggage delivered that night would be to call bell services from your room to reiterate that (as apparently front desk cannot do that very well). Also I do believe you have to be in your room to receive luggage from bell services, delivery from DME no you do not have to be there. Bell services will deliver it too your room for you though but you will have to call for it.

I guess my story is not normal. In 2012, my DD's bagn was already in the room when we got there. This was at POFQ. Not mine and my hubby's, though- those bags arrived sometimes while we were at the park.

Same here we have gotten the text , gone to the room and the luggage was there or else shortly afterwards. The last 2 trips the room was ready when we arrived and the bags were there when we got back from lunch less than 2 hours later. We do arrive late morning so that might be a factor.
