Question for the pros-

I am flying with two carriers (United and Frontier) on Monday and can't find the answer to my question- Will United automatically get my bag over to Frontier or will I need to claim it then recheck it to Frontier

Im flying from Orlando to Salt Lake with the switch from United to Frontier in Denver...

My experience has been that they will automatically move your baggage through to your final destination, but double check when you check your bags in.

I assume you are ticketed on a single ticket (or e-ticket) that covers your flights on United and Frontier.

I don't know the answer to your question.

United has interline baggage agreements with other legacy carriers (American, Delta, Continental, Northwest, US Airways) and with many regional and international airlines.

However, many low-cost carriers (such as Southwest and jetBlue) have very limited interline baggage agreements, if any at all.

I don't know where Frontier fits into this, so I would recommend calling Frontier.

I strongly doubt that Frontier will interline to United and vice versa. Did you purchase this as one ticket? if not, you may actually need to claim your bags, and check in to your 2nd flight at the connecting airport, which could take quite a bit of time.

United WILL interline luggage with certain airlines - I had a flight on UA DEN to LAX and then a flight on Air Canada several hours later; two seperate tickets as I had business to conduct in LA. I checked my bags with United in Denver, and had them check them through to my final destination.

Air Canada for example recently stopped interlining bags with most airlines, so I would definitely call United and ask, if you are checking in with them as the first leg of your trip.

Yup its as one E ticket through Cheaptickets.com.

I'll ask when I check my bag on Monday, luckily I have a 2 hour layover so Ill have time if I need to claim and recheck it-

I tried to search for you and can't find any details on Frontier interline agreements, although it appears that they DO interline - just doesn't list the airlines....

Hope it goes well!

I found this information in a letter to Frontier Airlines shareholders, dated July 31, 2006:

"We also have interline agreements with 105 domestic and international airlines serving cities on our route system. Generally, these agreements include joint ticketing and baggage services and other conveniences designed to expedite the connecting process."

Because the OP has interline tickets, it seems highly likely (based on this letter) that the baggage will be checked through to the final destination.

It seems that Frontier has embraced interline ticketing and baggage services to a much greater degree than many other low-cost carriers.

we read the same document, Horace... ;)
