Luggage from Disney resort to cruise

Could you tell me how the luggage transport between WDW resort and cruise ship works when you use Disney's bus to the port? Do we bring our luggage from our hotel room at check out and take it to the Disney Cruise bus ourselves? Do we claim it again when we get off the bus at the port or do they automatically put it on the ship for you? Thanks!

They will pick it up at your room! Usually around 8am. And take it directly to the ship. Next time you see it will be outside your cabin. Anything you want to bring, you take to the bus. They will put it underneath. When you get to the port you can then turn it over to the porters to be brought aboard or if it is carry on sized, you can take aboard yourself.

You can take it on the bus, some people do. But the advantage of paying the bus is them taking your luggage for you. Just make sure you get the DCL letter when you check-in and wait until they take it from your room if you can. They usually get it first thing in the morning. Sometimes they mess up the list and forget your luggage. Don't want to find out you were off the list on the first night of the cruise.

How many people are you?

We prefer to do a private car for about the same price, or a tad more, than the bus. Allows us to arrive on the schedule we like, as well as not have to turn our bags in at 8am.
Bell services will get your bags when you are ready to leave and bring them to the car for you. The car service driver loads them up. Then he unloads them at the port and the curbside porters take hem to the ship. It is really no work for you at all.
Just something to consider.

Last week we actually took uber to port from wdw and it was much less than the bus or car service, but I was nervous the whole time we wouldn't find a driver to agree driving that far. My husband wasn't worried at all and we got one quickly.

Luggage pick up also works at the end of your cruise. If you're flying on a participating airline and take the DCL bus to MCO, you set your luggage outside your stateroom door the last night of your cruise and the next time you see it will be at your home airport.

We are a family of 4, but I am a type A planner when it comes to trips, so even though I know we could save a bit by doing a private transfer, the peace of mind is worth the extra cost for someone like me! :)

I’m not a planner at all but still prefer the Disney transport. Last year we used it for 7 of us. Cost more? Of course. But for me, it’s just so much easier. And having the luggage checked in and taken from you the night before and then seeing it st your home airport later? Magical!

It would actually cost more for the private transfer, not less. For large families it can cost less. I am type A also, and prefer he private transfer so I have control of my morning and early afternoon instead of being dependent on Disney and their timeline.
