Luggage Check-In

Hi Everyone,

We're sailing on a program where our staterooms are not assigned until the day of sailing. How do we check-in our luggage if we don't know what staterooms we will be in? Do we take our luggage to the check-in counters and label them after our staterooms are assigned and then take them back out for the porters?

Thanks,

Do you mean you've booked a category guarantee (GTY)? If so, you'll likely know your stateroom before you board. They usually assign these as the sailing date nears. You often will have your room number when your documents arrive.

In any case, they will send you luggage tags with your cruise documents. Use them, and they shouldn't have a problem getting your luggage to you. Worst case, I'm sure they'll take them from you inside the terminal. I doubt you'd have to go back outside with them.

Thanks Lloyd,
Actually, our reservation is at the cast member rate and we will not be getting any documents in the mail. We have to download them from our company portal and our staterooms will not be assigned until actual sailing day.
Worst case, I'm hoping the scenario you described is what will happen: we can take our luggage to the check-in counters and attach the tags when we get our room assignments and they can pick them up from there. We'll see
Thanks again.

I would think they would handle it the same way they handle picking up docs at the port meaning you go to the luggage drop off area and give the porter your name and they find it on the list and tell you what room you are assigned in and then you would tag your luggage right there. I'm not positive about DCL but I know that other lines the porters have a passenger list with names and cabin #'s on it. They look at your ID and then can tell you which room and most of them should have luggage tags right there for you for this reason. When we went on 5-1 they took our luggage at a tent across the street and then we went to a tent right by the entrance to the building and they looked at our ID's and then let us go through after crossing our names off the passenger manifest. I wouldn't worry about it too much...I'm sure you aren't the first one to do this and I'm sure if you are supposed to be there they'll give you all the right stuff.

Have a good time no matter what!
Heidi

Bring your bags to the curbside check-in and we will take care of them from there. We do have manifests that are printed up first thing the morning of the sailing. If for some reason you still don't have a room assignment yet, we can hold the bags inside while you go upstairs for your room assignment, then just come back and let us know and we can get your bags on their way.
